IMHO live bait makes it far easier for someone to abuse the fishery. Take cumberland for example Average striper size in the 70s and 80s was much better than it will ever be again due to the effectiveness of live bait for removing fish from the population before they can reach trophy size
    Holders of sport fishing licenses
may take live bait from public waters
and may possess up to 500 minnows...........500 shad (

HOW are these folks keeping MORE than 500 shad alive when you have witnessed this? I know they have big tanks but keeping 50 shad alive is a huge chore.....

    Re: Smallmouth Poaching on Dale

2 years ago at Jacobson Park I was bed fishing for big gills and was filling the cooler up with some good ones when a mexican gentleman walked up, walked out in front of me where the beds were in the water and started throwing a casting net. It pissed me off since I had been wearing these fish out and was trying to get enough fillets for fillet Sunday with the guys. I packed my stuff up and walked across the cove on the richmond road side. A game warden walked up to me about 30 min after I was there and checked me. I told him about what happened and he stood with me until the guy threw the net again. The warden looked at me and said "I kicked that guy out last year for doing that too." The warden walked over and they mexican guy left. I went back to my spot and was not catching much but to my suprise the mexican guy came back with the net this time throwing in the center of the cove. I got to watching him and he was keeping anything in the net. He had several bass around 8 inches long. Made me sick and got me thinking that if this guy has balls to do this in Lexington then I wonder what goes on around other lakes in KY.

    Re: Smallmouth Poaching on Dale

I've seen gill nets being used on Dale....Ky. Lake....Green River Lake; and it "seemed" that those checking them were keeping everything that was caught in them...be it smallies...under size bass...I was so upset at the time...but thinking it was legal..
Come to find out that evening...they wern't!! And these guys were throwing all of the fish in coolers..more than one cooler!! In all repects to the law inforcement...and the job they carry out day in day out;...prabably under staffed;..large areas to cover,.. great people...trying to do the best they can I assume...But where are they???? I've been fishing for over 30 years...more than 50 days a year..and I've only been checked twice in my life for fish in my live wells???? I guess Im a little disgrunted with the game and fish law inforcment. Just a few weeks ago the KBFN had a state championship on the Ohio River...One of the Game Wardens in Carrollton Ky. wanted to make sure we knew that a half mile infront of the dam lock was off limits for fishing. That is fine...he made his thoughts known to us...and we made sure we made it clear to the particpants that this area was off limits at the meeting. But I guess what got me upset...is the warden went on to say that he would be there at "all day, starting at day light"..to be sure we don't fish there...and that he would "hand out tickets to all day"; that didn't obide to his...edict warning. Like I said...that is fine...if that is what he wants to do....Now that next day was (Sat.), opening muzzle loading weekend....now you would think this Game Warden would have something better to do...than to try and catch tournament bass anglers from fishing in an area with heavy barge traffic (most won't fish there anyway). From my point of view...these are the guys that have the most respect for the fishing regulations.....saftey...and the inviroment. Oh well......get off my pitty pot.

I believe it! You know how knuckleheads are in every sport, family or way of life. I wouldn't doubt if it happens on every lake in the state.

Heck just look on here and you can see how some people try and ad to the board by doing there best and then some people try to cause trouble and try and bait you into breaking the rules. tsk tsk shame shame.....

I agree. There is no way to truly enforce the size limits. There are so many people who could care less what the laws are, or take the time to even find out. They are usually the same people who leave the styrofoam worm containers and empty cans of bush light all along the bank!

Not sure what some peoples problems are? This is an awesome forum full of great guys willing to help a brother out. There's always got to be a rotten apple in the bunch though, never fails.

bassfisherman99's bloviating about Elwood is amazing! His 42 posts on this board says it all. He needs to tune in for a while and he'll see that Elwood doesn't stretch the truth. I mean, this is a guy who says he caught a 5.15 SM and didn't call it a 6 pounder. Get real!
