Fished upstream of Helms on Friday. Didn't have a stream thermometer with me but the water felt a bit cooler, maybe high 50's. I threw a spoon and Rooster Tail most of the day, a few bumps and follows but no fish in the boat. Around 3 in the afternoon I noticed a couple dozen trout rising to a pretty substantial midge hatch in the shade close to one shoreline. I put on a dry fly and caught one smallish rainbow. Then the pull cord on my outboard proceeded to break at the handle, so I was left trying to drive upstream with my trolling motor close to the bank. I had to drive over the fish, thus spooking them. Gave up around 4 but if I'd been able to avoid driving over the risers I might have caught a few more.
