    a welcome sign

I went to my first bass pro shop, over the weekend. they have about any kind of bait know to man. except the hog catcher bait . that elnut calls { the hoss fly } but i could have over looked it. and i also over looked the { duck feather jig } but what i remember about the store the most, was the welcome sign, hanging over the front door, it said. { welcome hunters, fishermen, and all other lairs } i did laugh kinda low. and ask myself ? why did they put fishermen, on that sign.

Not sure they carry the Hoss Fly, which is what Billy Westmoreland called it several years ago, better known today as the Asprin Head Jig and also not sure if they have any FNF stuff either. It was in their catalog a couple of years ago but not last year and I did see some FNF stuff in their store then but not recently. You can get both of these at The One Stop in Celina TN or on line at Punisherlures.com. Both of these are owned by Steve Headrick and you will get excellent service. I am in Frankfort and if you need them quicker than you can get them shipped from Punisher you can get a few from me. I have the Hoss Fly / Asprin Head in only 1/4oz in Yellow, the only size and color I throw and have a BUNCH of Duck Feather Jigs in Duck Feather Chartreuse and Red, Purple and Blue with MANY of each color. The Duck Feather jig will catch some fish on the creeks around central ky now but the Yellow Hoss Fly gets the best results when the water temps drop below 45. Again, let me know if you need them within the next day or so and we can meet somewhere. Otherwise, Punisher will take good care of you and you can see all the colors on their website.

Forgot to mention, you may check with Backwaters in Lexington because I know he stocks a full line of Punisher FNF and Asprin Head jigs. I was in there on Monday and he said his first order for the winter should be in by mid to late week. I saw a few FNF jigs and Asprin Head jigs on the pegs but not a lot for this was leftover from last winter. Talk to John Meyer and he will let you know

The Bass Pro in Clarksville does carry Punisher kits. They are about $30-$35 though. They are on the end of one of the isles facing the main part of the store (not in the isle itself). Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info on the Punisher Kits. Just my opinion, you can do better by purchasing the items individually because if the kits are like they were in the past, there is more craft hair jigs than Duck jigs and I am not for sure there are FNF bobbers in the kits. Just make sure the right bobbers come in the kit and the right mix of jigs as well or you may buy a full kit that you only use part of it.

I just went to Punishers website and the kit shows the proper FNF bobbers are in the kit but it also shows a lot more craft hair jigs than Duck Feather jigs in the kit. For $35, you could get a 2 pack of Bob's Bobbers, a tube of Garlic Fish Dope, and 10 or so different jigs and spend the same amount as you would for the kit but get what you want on the jigs. If you are just starting out and wanted to buy 10 jigs, I suggest 2 - white/pink/blue craft hair, 2 - smoke craft hair and 6 - Duck Feather with Chartreuse and Red, Blue or Purple (any combination). This will cover your Duck Feather request plus 2 other craft hair types that work in certain conditions when the Duck bite slows down.

I haven't really looked at them closely, but I do know they come with some bobbers, Fish Dope attractant, assorted jigs, and I think there may be some 3-way swivels in there too. I couldn't tell what kind of jigs (fur or feather) were in the box, but I buy all my jigs separately too. I only use the feathered. You may want to look into the Cabin Creek FNF jigs -- they are feathered and come in some great colors.

I saw some asprin heads at Backwaters about 10 days ago. They had a fair selection of sizes and colors.

The Starter kit is a complete kit with everything but the rod reel and fireline, 3 way's and flouro.

Buy the kit, and FNF rod and reel and some fireline, a small spool of 6lb flouro, some 3 way swivels and you're on the water.

It has 12 jigs, in 1/32 and 1/16, garlic fish dope, instructions, and 2 bobs bobbers.

    WOHOO...........fnf is almost here.

    Later,

    Geo

Just another reason to buy the jigs seperate because I have NEVER seen it where 1/32 versus 1/16 ounce jigs made a difference. I USED to have several of these 1/32 ounce jigs and never seen a difference in that they produced over the 1/16 and all they were doing was taking up slots in my box so out they came and have not been in my box for several years now. 1/16 ounce jigs is all you need for the FNF and the thought process that DEPTH AND PRESENTATION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR in fishing the fly that you can control. IMPOSSIBLE that these fish will turn away from a 1/16 only to wait for a 1/32 ounce jig. There is a little difference in the fall rate but not enough fish are caught on the fall that it will be a difference maker, plus if the fish are hitting it on the fall lets say they hit it at 10 foot when your leader is at 13 foot then you are missing out on a LOT of fish if you don't move your leader to 10 foot. These fish will feed looking up and won't move very far to feed. A bait sitting at 13' will have a lot less chance at catching a fish sitting at 10'. The other way around and your chance go up astronomically. The kit would be a better deal if they had 3 kits, 1/16oz kit, 1/32 oz kit and then the normal mixed kit. I would by the 1/16oz kit many times over before the other 2 for the reason mentioned above.
