Sauger on the Ohio River

I fished the Markland pool today and only caught 3 keeper sauger with a couple shorts as well, I was using a jig and minnow combo and it was alot of fishing and next to little catching. I cant really pattern the darn things right now does anyone know where and when to target these tasty little buggers? The river was running pretty good and the water was really stained, visiblity was less than a foot....that may have something to do with it, I guess the fish cant eat what they dont see huh? I dont think they have run up to the dams yet but then again I am not sure...(this is where the sauger old timers should chime in....)

Bill......We kept a dozen eaters last thursday in the mouth of feeder creeks. caught a bunch of cigars...Gonna try it again Sat...It was too swift to fish the dam then....They should be moving up to the wall....Thats probably where we will start........................Norm

Been catching a few below Greenup Dam.The bite picks up about at dusk and into the night.We have been using jigs with curly tail grubs.

Do you think there would be any sauger in the mouths of feeder creeks not near a dam? I can fish Markland or Meldahl but they are both about 45 min away from me here in Northern KY and it would be easier to fish the river up this way instead of hitting the dams. I didnt know if the sauger will swim all the way to the dams or just stay where they are and go up the creeks or small rivers on the Ohio R?

Fished the markland pool 11 / 7 / 09 ...Did not do any good at all....
