Don't buy flank feathers, it makes me sad just thinking of you wasting your money. In western KY there are several guys that clean birds for the tourist hunters who in the past have had no problem letting me have at their feather covered pluckin' sheds and, with Thanksgiving fast approaching there is about to be a hell of a lot of feathers on the floor. If you can't bring yourself to blast em', don't know any waterfowlers or, just can't hit em' find a local poultry farm. Failing that, drop me a line and I'll mail you a whole bag of mallard flank feathers. If you want the bronze color you can always dye them. That way you only have to spend like $2.00 on some rit dye, one time. Great guys, they let me have so many the last time I still have enough to fill a quart size bag for you with enough left over to last me another ten years. Same for turkey.
i do use the wood duck feathers and i use the flank ones as well. Sometimes a smaller fly is better so the flank feathers come in handy! I was told that by a guy named Eddie Knuchols so i would say that he knows what he is talking about!
