60 degress on cr

back to helms this am trout hittin top water early am and through the day. water still warm 60 degree from dam to winfreys rock. caught good rainbows and numerous browns on rooster tails today and some on crankbaits. River very busy today. Fishin was fair rainbows very colorful. I feel for the fly rod guys in waders as i watched numerous high power boats blast past with no respect to fellow fisherman. Some real yahoos on the river today.

Thanks for the report. Hopefully the CR temps will break below that 60 degree mark here soon. Glad to hear that you all caught some fish. We will be heading up to the dam area next Wed for four days of fishing (some CR, some CL). Looks like it should be good.

glad to be of some help. I'm the new guy here been readin what you guys been sayin for a while thought i'd sign up. Knew it would be crowded today, but it made me sick to se some of those boats blow past those guys wade fishin. Overall good day caught about 20 fish maybe one or to dinks water still a little merky visability about 3 ft. Fog didnt burn off til around 11am and man it was thick. I headed to Burksville next weekend so i can go whith my son. He's in collage at wku. Not to familiar with water down there. And for the record i got skunked for the first time from rainbow run to winfreys rock.

Glad to have you aboard! As a fellow fly fisherman and avid bank angler, I understand all to well the feeling of a jet boat flying by you going 50 mph and ruining the fishing for the next hour or so! Now that I have a boat, I will never do that to anyone!

I typically fish below Wolf Creek dam when I go. I have a four day trip planned this next week for up there. We'll be staying at Kendall for one night then up on the lake in a house boat for the other two nights. Looks like conditions are going to be perfect for boat fishing and spinning gear on the CR. I'll still bring the fly rod though just in case (can't help it). I'll be reporting on the trip when I get back. Hard to believe you got skunked from Rainbow Run to Winfrey's Rock....crazy! Take care.

good luck winfreys rock to dam round 14 mile or so. what we did was pull up to the swift water from down stream I'd steady the boat to hold us in place and let my partner cast into the swifter water or eddie hole and it paid off at most spots. Unfortunatly I couldnt get any shots in I had to keep boat in place. But just putting my friend in the position to catch em was rewarding.http://fishin.com/forums2/images/icons/icon14.gif

Now that is true friendship right there! When we fish up at the dam (depending on water release) we can usually sit in the eddy on the right side of the dam and fish...however, when the water is a blowing, usually motor up close as we can get, kill the engine, and float down casting....then repeat. Looks like water conditions will be excellent for staying in a good position this week.

Rainbow run has never produced a fish for me in my 7 years of fishing the CR. It's in my head now and I can't seem to catch a break. I'll catch fish all day long from the dam to rockhouse and then BOOM...it shuts down. I've tired everything there...it's my bermuda triangle!

Rainbow ruun has been very very good to me. Theres a deep hole below it and then you come to a gravel bar just about middle of the river. just above the house on the left if your headed down stream. Fishing to the right of that bar has produced very large browns for me. My thoughts are of the flow of the river. Faster flow more fish for my style fishing. 2 to 3 mile an hr. current is what i look for. Rainbow run was 1.3saturday. Knew I was in trouble when I got there. Also didnt get there til 1pm kinda the dead zone time of day. If the water isn't moving fast I look for where it is.Regaredless of the cfm.

I usually fish just below or above fast water in the channels, but when the river is really rolling I find it hard to fish. I went on the Whiter River in AR year before last and the guide showed us two ways to fish dead water...White Maribou - jerk it through the water with lots of slack in your line...we've had some luck with it. 3-4in smithwicks throw into dead water against a bank or boulders and work it like a jerk bait...take it under then let it float. It's a game of endurance, but it will produce some larger fish.

thanks for the welcome. Before they started repair on the dam we'd watch the generater sceduale and would fish the the flat waters with spinners, floaters, pin minnows etc. for a few hours til the release of the water. We would be succesful but mainly on smaller trout. When they would open the water up, boy the bigger trout would turn on big time. Cfs from 10000 to 20000. The harder the water the better the action! I have caught two trout over the slot since those days. We have been very succesful at catching slot fish but 20+ is harder thse days. I find most my fish right in the fast current. Short casts, and crank hard. Spinners and crankbaits add a split shot to get deeper if need be. I even carolina rig depending on depth. I think that I give them the fast flash of the lure and short time to think and they bang it hard. Was hopeing to make Burkesville this weekend but house chores have me grounded. Thanks for your imput and hope my thoughts help someone land a 20''+. I'll probably skip work and head down next week.
