First FnF Smallmouth for me this winter.

Caught them wading in a creek, but it was still nice to see the bobber go down. Ended up landing 4 and losing one other. 3 of them were really solid, nice creek smallmouth - no trophies but around 12 inches. The other one was pretty small.

Once we found them in the deepest pool we came across. Didn't have any other bites until that pool.

That is what I am talking about. Nothing like a good Smallie on the fly. Another week and a half and it is Stoner Creek for my first creek smallie on the fly (hopefully).

Can I get in on this bet? I caught my first one at 7:15am January 1 of 2009, 5-1 ounce and another that went 4-15 a few minutes later.

I think Redneckshadrap might have the first of this winter for he was catching them out of Elkhorn on the fly about 3 weeks ago if I recall his post. I have yet to make a cast with the fly this winter and actually my rods are still locked away in the Gold Lined Safe with 24 hour security guards on watch. I will have to lay them off soon and break out the rods to clean the reels and eyes, put fresh 8lb Fireline on them and get them ready for the 12 pounder that I plan on landing out of Dale in December.

Good deal Michael...We need to plan a float on the main stem and do that exact thing. I've caught them just letting the current do all the work....I've been doing my fair share of fly throwing the past 2 wks...Those dang gills are wearing me out where I'm at though,,,LOL!! I set the hook and bout did a gainer on Sunday into the creek...

I would have paid good money to see you do a Triple Lindy Double Lutz Half Gainer into Elkhorn on the hookset. Maybe I can help that happen at Stoner next Friday.

Just say the word and I'm there. I was only fishing a 2' leader on Sunday and just using a regular length light spinning rod. Once we found them, they bit aggressively.
