they had two hds units, mounted side by side. one had the regular transducer, the other had the structure scan transducer, they placed metal pipe, and some old tires, and a cement block in the water. and as the boat went over it, the regular transducer just showed red humps on the bottom, and the structure scan showed the pipe, the tires and block just like a picture. thats why i was wondering if it would work that good in real life. the transducer mounts on the back of the boat, but they do sell a trolling motor mount. whats the price at bass pro. I found them on line at star marine depot. i don't remember the exact price. but it was 550 something. it was less than 160.00. I have the hds-7 unit and would like to see the structure scan work on a boat. if it's as good as it looked on the dvd, i will get one. ps. thanks for the reply, and may the good lord bless you.

I'm interested as well. This is one of those things that could be great or a complete bust.

The guys I know who had the Hummingbird versions like them but ALL report to me that it takes a long time to learn to use and that if you don't have a big screen for it then forget it.

In my opinion what takes the time is the "fine tuning" of the unit to get the most out of it (humminbird). Not real hard and yes the bigger units are just easier on the eyes because you will find yourself staring at it for what seems like hours. I believe either unit will suffice and I am not at all upset with me humminbird - was awesome right out of the chute IMHO
