Sounds like a great day. Drum on light tackle is better then not catching anything!

My buddy and I fished below Meldahl yesterday. Tough conditions with the high pressure and blue bird skies. We tried up around all the other boats and didn't do any good. We saw a few guys catch some sauger but they seemed small. They were using jigs and minnows I think. We were using Flitterbaits. We decided to get away from the crowd and fish down stream. Turned out to be a great decision. We started getting into drum. What a blast jigging the Flitterbait and feeling that thud. We were using ultra lite tackle which made for some good battles. We ended up boating 14 drum up to 3 lbs. I don't know how many got off but we should have had over 20 drum. If we would beef up our tackle, our catch rate would have been better, but who cares. It was a blast. We also got 5 sauger, one white bass and one 10 lb flathead. The flathead was caught by my buddy on 6 lb test line and took over 5 minutes to land. The Flitterbait was all the way down in its throat. We also hooked a couple of hybrids we think. After making some strong screaming runs, they pulled off. Ultra lite fishing is not always about boating fish, but is more about the bite and the fight. It turned out to be a great day of Flittering.

I was there Sat am too. Very foggy morning. We fished the same area by the dam. 2 13" sauger, both on blade baits. Saw some nice ones caught by some fellas right by us. Looked to be good 3-4 lb. sauger. They too were using jigs and minnows. It was too slow for us, so we packed up and started fishing in middle of the river and around the sandbar on the Ky side. No fish. It was s l o w for us too. We did catch several white bass at daylight on topwater ricos and hard jerkbaits.
Bassky
We didn't get there until around 10:30 a.m. and tried the Ky side first. We tried the sand bar right before dark but only managed one white bass. The Flitterbait is a blade bait that looks just like a shad. The drum love them.![]()
