I had a similar incident a couple years back with a Merc. Got a temporary obstruction to the water intake, motor died, I sat there for about 5 minutes, tried to refire it, and it ran just fine from then out. I have to give Merc credit, sometimes their motors actually protect themselves from "doctor bills".
