Are Optima'a worth it?

Alright Guru's are they worth 200 dollars a piece? Going to replace my Trolling batteries and I'm seriously considering buying these batteries.

No maintenance and no spillage of Acid.

I had two Evertstarts back there and they caused me a mess with seepage that I just uncovered, I don't want anymore Walmart Junk back there. No real damage other than my battery tray that I took out cleaned up and repainted.

Ok Here is my take on it. I was looking into them, I have a 36v trolling motor so the blue tops I was seeing about 600 bucks. More than double the price of what I ended up getting. The real reason other than the cost of my decision came down to they had the same crappy warranty as most all the other batteries that are half the cost. Actually more than half the cost but who's counting.

Not to discourage, but every customer who purchased them (bluetop and looks like a sixpack) at the dealership I worked at brought them back and said they were junk. We also put them in some of our cruisers that we sold, only to take them back out within a few months because the owners hated them. We had several problems with them (not holding a charge, etc).

You're supposed to get what you pay for, but in this case I can't justify spending that much for a battery IMO. Buy some midrange priced batteries, and use the rest on new lures, line, etc.

Thanks Guys this exactly what I was looking for. Napa said they have a full three year no Quibble replacement warranty? I was skeptical and now I really am. I've had decent success with Deka in the past maybe I'll just go back to them. Their top battery is 109 and change and is Maintenance free with a 2 year warranty.

i've had good luck with walmart's everstart batteries & if you have trouble there's a wal-mart just about everywhere you go.

I second the Wally World batteries. Some of the best I've ever bought came from Wally.

I am new too the site and enjoy reading all the info everyone gives. Napa brand batteries are made by DEKA. I have no problems with my NAPA cranking battery or DEKA TM batteries.

I've got two of the Everstart MAXX batteries.........29 series, and they ROCK.

I also purchased the flowrite system to make sure they are ALWAYS filled right....

Since adding these, I've not had any problems......

BTW....if you're having some seepage problems, are you sure you're not boiling the water out. If they overcharge, you will BOIL water out the vents, and that water has got to go somewhere........I suspect that might be the prob.

Also, if you're low on water, dont fill them and then charge them........Charge them, and then fill them..........doing the other way around, and the new electrolyte will expand, and boil out.......

Good stuff George I may have done exactly what you said with adding then charging. I've got a two bank onboard charger I might need to get that thing checked its getting some age on it. I'm gonna have these batteries checked out.

I'm also not getting the full green bars on one side of my charger. Also when the trollling motor is on it's pulsing like speeding up then slowing down??

I've had my Optima's for 4 years and love them - so far I have not been able to wear them out even on a 3 day fishing weekend - allows my trolling motor to pull my overloaded TR-21 around all day - I'm ready to quit before they are!

I had a fellow that owns a battery company tell me they weren't worth it & he sold them & quit handling them. He said they gave him some to push them in the area & he said he put a set in his boat & his brothers also & took them out & gave them back because he didn't like them at all. He told me to get a Deka ,Interstate or Trojan. He doesn't sell either so I figured that's about as honest an opinion as you can get. My brother in law on the other hand who is as sharp as they come mechanically & electronicly will have nothing else. Go figure.

Carquest Gold Deep Cycle Marine Battery, $85 each, just replaced 2 on my trolling motor and the last set of same lasted over 5 years and still had decent life left but was not sure they would handle my 12-16 hour days on the water that I do in the spring and summer so changed them out. I get just as much out of this set as the last set. As long as they are around I will buy these. Unless you can get 10 years out of the Optima then my deal is the better deal and I save about $60 to boot.
