The best day of the fishing year for elnut

The best day of the fishing year for Elnutsmalljaws has arrived. No it is not the first day on the water at Dale Hollow shortly after the new year, no it is not the day of the first 5lb Smallie on the fly. It is not the first cast at Ky Lake in late March early April with the DEADLY Red Eye Shad looking for a prespawn big Greenfish, not even the first cast night fishing at Cumberland with Redfin or Sliver just waiting on the bust from the 30lb Striper. Not even the full moon in June on Dale Hollow slow rolling a 1oz Bubblegum Single Colorado Spinnerbait on my favorite flat with stumps waiting on the MOST VIOLENT STRIKE IN BASS FISHING.

IT IS TODAY AND I WAS NOT EVEN ON THE WATER!!!!!!!! The day that I get to lay off the 24 hour security guards, send the German Shephard Guard Dogs back to wherever you send German Shephard Guard Dogs when they get laid off, set the combination on the safe door, turn the 5 different keyed locks on the same safe door, disconnect the interior laser beams that protect the interior of the floor to ceiling safe, crack the safe door, HEAR THE ANGELS SING, (can you hear them now), focus on the bright light that is beaming down on the holy grail of FLOAT N FLY RODS - 10' All Pro with Okuma Spinning reel, 9'6" G Loomis with Okuma Spinning Reel and 10' Lexus Silstar, with no spinning reel for it was a gift from my buddy Chunknwind a couple of weeks ago just because I speak so highly of them so he bought me one. That is right I have broken into the safe and broke out the FNF rods and reels for the upcoming winter season that begins tomorrow morning at Stoner Creek in Paris Ky with Redneckshadrap (don't hold that against me please). Took the rod wrap material off both rods, took off the reels and gave them a good thoroughly cleaning, put on new rod wrap on the handles and spooled each of them up with fresh straight out of the box Berkley 8lb Fireline. Tied on a fresh Spro #4 3 way swivel, some fresh 6lb Bass Pro Shops XPS Flourocarbon leader and fresh Punisher 1/16oz FNF jigs to both rods and reels. Hooked on a nice new freshly made Elnut FNF bobber where the glue just dried last night and she was tank tested to perfection with a 1/16oz jig and turned up like a champ this afternoon. What a great day in the fishing life of elnutsmalljaws. Went ahead and spooled fresh 10lb BPS XPS Flourocarbon in both my Curado/G Loomis baitcasters and 6lb BSP XPS Flourocarbon in all 3 of my better spinning reel combos after giving them both a good cleaning as well. Tied on square billed crankbaits to both baitcasters that run between 2-4 feet deep, one is Sexy Shad and the other is Crawdad color. Tied on a 3/8oz Black and Blue Last Cast jig with Paca trailer on 14lb Flourocarbon on one of my Chronarch / G Loomis baitcasters as well. All 3 baitcasters and FNF rods will be in the boat tomorrow and Friday at Stoner. Went ahead and tied on a Silver Buddy, 1/4oz Luhr Jensen Crankbait and Flitterbait to the spinning reels to get ready for Dale Hollow.

Ready for Stoner this week and after Stoner all I have to do is cut off the crankbaits of my 10lb Curado/G Loomis Baitcasters and tie on a D&L 1/2 and 3/4 oz Football Head Jigs in PB&J color to each, change my leader length to my FNF rods and tie on Duck Feather jigs to each, put my 3 spinning reel outfits in the boat and she is all ready for DALE HOLLOW BABY. Bring on some cold weather and December 6th thru 10th and maybe 2 more days before or after to make it a 6 day trip the first time depending on fishing and the turnover. All I can say is the last time Dale Hollow was at this lake level was a couple of years ago and I had a bunch of spots that gave up 4+ smallies and had my best winter of 5 pounders. Should be a good year of numbers and size so LOOK OUT SMALLIES, ELNUT IS LOCK COCKED AND READY TO PROVE AGAIN HE IS...............CERTIFYABLE FLOATNFLYABLE!!!!!

Man................you have it BAD..........but I did the same thing a couple days ago.

I have all 3 fnf rods tied up, and ready to go.........I'm not taking any bait casters to Dale with me next friday, at least as of now I'm not.

I do have 4 spinning outfits locked and loaded though.

    Later,

You need the baitcasters George for one of two things. First of all it is going to be COLD if you look at the forecast so the turnover may start but either way. You need them for the 1/2 and 3/4 oz Football Head Jigs to fish the points deep if the turnover has not started and if it has, then switch to shallow crankbaits and parallel the banks in shallow water for the Smallies will move shallow, I am talking 1-2 feet deep shallow to try and get some oxygen from the waves hitting the bank. Either way the baitcaster with 10lb flourocarbon is the best ticket for both. You could even get away with 14lb Flourocarbon on the 3/4 oz Football Head Jig fished in the 20-30 feet deep range. I know you like Spinning your fish in but break out the Johnny Morris Baitcasters and try and let Johnny catch a couple for you.

    Mr. Certifyable FloatNflyable,

I can see you in the blowing snow
With all your rods and “ducks” in a row
Sitting in your “Deep V” full of hope
With your lips coated with “fish dope”

With a squiggle of the swivel
    And jerk-down of the bobber
If you are not careful that O’Brown fish
    Will be a duck-feather “fly-robber”

Whether you use XPS, Firline or Flouro
You may be in for an acrobatic enduro
So hold on to your well-oil Okuma
And get ready for the “Smalljaw Rumba”

Whether it be a “Last Cast Jig”
Or a “Fling Fast Long Rig”
It will not be the “Paca Craw” trailer
But the well-learned skill of an old sailor”

It matters not if it is a an “Silstar” or “G-Loomis”
Or some well-tucked trick out of the boot
You could be left ripped and mangled
By some old hungry, well-webbed coot

    So keep your leader measured
And keep your butt on the Float and fly throne
If you become a little under balanced
Grab a moon pie and get back in the strike zone

    You just don’t know
    When that well-oiled Okuma
Will start doing the quiver and shake
Causing Mr. Certifyable to do the “Smalljaw Rumba”

    By all means
    Before your forward cast
Make sure your rod is locked and loaded
And may all your casts be your very best

Between you and 3sons writing these songs and poems about me and the FNF I could start an album, only if I could sing and trust me NOBODY wants to hear that. 5 days at Dale with you two in the boat and the cabin 24/7 and we might just have to put out a CD of all your greatest hits. Now get back to work for UK Hospital is not paying you to be a Poet, they are paying you to Respiratory Therapy somebody. thanks again, bone
