Re: Very good read about Obama

To say Obama slipped through a crack in the educational and political arena based on his race is insane. You still have to have a high level of academic and personal achievement to attend any ivy league school, regardless of race. Just because someone is black, does not mean they get a free ride to these schools. I can agree with you that affirmative action does offer an advantage to minorities in terms of preference over equally qualified caucasions, however, they don't just take anyone off the street - you still have to have demonstrated excellence in academics, and go through the same rigorous admission process as anyone else.

This whole post reinforces my thoughts on the major problem with our political system. It seems both parties would rather see the other one fail, rather than their own succeed or even progress (this seems to be true from the voters all the way up to the highest levels of office). It seems many conservatives are so focused on finding flaws and things they don't agree with, with this administration that they have become incapable of seeing anything positive. This isn't just an issue with conservatives either, I believe the Liberals, including myself did this for the last eight years with the Bush administration. It is going to take a true bi-partison effort to get us out of the mess we are in (not just from the Obama administration, but an accumulation of events from the last several administration), and I don't think either party is making a significant effort to make that happen.

You are right on, everybody wants everybody else to fail, so they can look like the hero, it use to be both parties cared about the country, and its people, now all they care about is themselves, and that true on both sides of the fence!

This is not true, according to Law. Women and minorities can be taken out of a regular pool of candidates and be give different, usually less stringent standards for qualifying for a position at an institution. Affirmative action goals must be met according to the law.

Interesting thoughts........I just thought he got there by getting more votes. I just never realized affirmative action laws assisted him to get "appointed".

that was my thinking as well, the most votes wins. and every how many obama got, mine made one more.give him a chance. time will tell if he was the man for the job or not. I also thought george w. bush was a good man, and voted for him. I could kick my own behind for that. I am a old man, and have voted all my life. you think one thats running for office. is a good man, and they turn out to be crooks every time. before i die, i would like to see a honest politician. but i don't think, their is one in the world.

ps... george w. bushs dad, could catch a fish. well, reel it in any way. i saw him do that on tv once. but you know how crooked those politicians are, they may have put one on his hook, to make him look good on tv.

I did get a ha. ha. from halls post. but please, wait a year or two before letting obama in the woods with cheney. if he gets bush's mess cleaned up. then let him go hunting with cheney, but load cheneys gun with blanks. but if in a couple years and obama turns out to be a crook like all the others. then give cheney lots of good live ammo, and let bush and obama go hunting with him.

Cheney could guide, Kennedy if he were alive could drive them there and Bill Clinton can stay at the lodge and entertain the wives.

Re: Very good read about Obama

I have a buddy who is a Superintendent for Huge Construction outfit in Louisville. On many of the high profile jobs that he runs especially those that have State or City funds involved he MUST have a number of minorities on site.
Yes, that's right an actual number is given to him and he must meet that. He draws from a pool of Union Laborers and or Journeyman Carpenters. Some are black, some are women, and some are black women, some are other Nationalities. Most of those just mentioned can't drive a cottonpickin nail without help either. While guys that actually know what they are doing are sitting at home with no work sometimes, some woman named ShacanDra is out there in standing right in somebodies way complaining about how hard the work is, how cold it is, or when is the next break coming.

BTW, this is not a racial slam in anyway just an actual honest to Goodness problem the system has. I don't work on people's teeth, ya know why, cause I'm not a Dentist. Why should someone be out there risking their lives and someone elses just cause Aff Action says so. Reverand, (Yea Right), Lewis Coleman has picketed a many of his jobs only to be Glad handed and then he went away.
