    KY river Thanksgiving Day

    Hey Guys,
I was duck hunting the KY river on the opener (Thanksgiving Day)

saw tons of what I guess to be jumps or boils of fish all along the river. I don't know what "jumps" is so I will describe what I saw.

Looked like baitfish were in schools and then several bigger fish would bust those schools up at the surface. The bait fish would jump but so would the big fish (I think what I saw where white bass jumping) but also larger fish hitting the surface. Saw probably 10-20 of these events between 7 am - 12 noon.

Just thought you guys might like to know.

The jumps are when larger fish (hybrid/striper) are schooling up shad and then busting them on the surface.

Yep that is what was happening.

Downstream of I-75 bridge by the KY American Water uptake pipes and 200 yds up and downstream.

Probably a shot in the dark though if its happening again.

Jump fishing can be very unpredictable, however given a short time frame it can be consistent for awhile. They were there because the baitfish were there. The baitfish were there for a reason to. Maybe it was the water was a bit warmer there and they had a food source, meaning they just might be there again, therefore the Stipers will be there again. Anytime you see that go back the next day and at least keep them honest.

I've seen bass, Ky's, Largeheads, Smallmouth do this for days sometimes in a given local. Stipers are more Nomatic however they will stay on the bait if the bait stays put.

The bass do this almost all summer long on Lake Nolin. Every evening/early morning you can find bass in the mouths of coves going crazy.
