Not too many on here but perhaps a few, know the path of that fish the day it was (brought in), from ILL Will, Wisdom dock it made its way over to Ceadar Hill where Mr. **** Robert's an associate's played a part in verifying the world record, on a set of Ice house scales, but instead of me trying to recount the tale, there are a few still around the hollar that were about when it took place, just to many inconsistance's to let me believe it was as big, and only a guess on my part with other skeptics, that the fish was found floating, not sure id agree with that but its folkflore. We all know a simple
poly graph sure would eliminate the skeptics, if u had a world record wouldnt you take it?, after all he Mr. Haye's, had so much deal with over losing the record what did he have to lose....Principle..please.........
Your right I need to stick to chasing the next 23 incher lol.
and leave all the visons of him landing that world record in everyones mind. Off to First Island!

If there are smallies feeding on trout out west, then that's where the record will probably be challenged. Most people do not make the connection but the size of the LM bass and stripers dropped considerably in Cumberland when they stopped stocking it with trout. A fish on trout is equal to a fish on steroids. I can only imagine what Cumberland would be like if they still stocked it. Sadly, it wouldn't be all good.

I agree...there's not another 11.15 oz smallmouth in Dale...this is my opinion.

I hear ya on that Chubminnow...but I believe there is...There has to be at least one pushing 11 pounds...or 12lbs during the spawn. My personal largest came during late Dec. on a white spook, walking it like a pro, side to side! My arm has never been so sore from fishing that day, never so exhusted, ...I had to get a room that night...unable to drive home back to Oldham Co.. It was my best day on Dale ever, never stopped throwing the top water bait from dusk, till dawn, and maybe took 1 break to eat a pj sandwich...It was frezzing rain all day, two years ago. I had 9 under just under 21 inches...5 just a pinch over 21 inches, and one that went over 23 inches...it was whopping 6lbs and 13 ounces!!!! I wanted to take it home, and put her on the wall. But where I caught her was so beutiful...she was beutiful...a huge waterfall pooring into the lake where I caught her...I released the rest..might as well let her go to, I did. I had three times the blow ups on that spook, than I had hooked!!!!...There were times that day that the smallies would hit it so hard...the spook would just get knocked into the air. Total of 15 smallies...all day! My partner stuck with the CB bomber ( he didn't have a spook or a sammy), nor did I for him to use;...he only caught 4 that day, only one over 21 inches. Hell of a day...got love that top water bite!!!!

I am a Cumberland guy, always have been, always will be, BUT, if the world record smallmouth is ever beaten (I doubt it) it will come from Dale. Dale has that unknown something that produces freak smallmouths. I think the smallmouth WR is one of the toughest records to beat. A smallmouth of that size is like a bluegill that weight 6 pounds. It just isn't going to happen very often if ever. If this record is ever broken in California, a little piece of me will die. I really enjoy the state of KY owning this record.

Any one ever happen to think about the forage base?Most of the bait I seen caught on dale are alewives. These forage fish are not that structure oriented, they are open water bound much of the year, and they can go deep.I understand that the state of Georgia has introduced blyue back herring into lake lanier, this has about as much protien as trout. The magnum hell bender was built by wopper stopper,it could dive to about 20 ft. Now with the new braided lines or flouro it could probably could go deeper. the early wooden models had a metal lip, they went to plastic way back in the sixtys. When I( was a spoonplugger, bombers were a good alternative to the metal spoons.That spoonplugging was more work than fun, but it sure caught fish.
