    watching with electronic's

One of the guides took me out yesterday, 11 mph shifting winds, water temp,56, depth 33ft. Air temp had a bite. . Anyway I got a good lesson on electronic's.

He had a good little drop he found some fish on an w/livebait an a couple hours of coaxing non biteing fish, was able to get 6 fish in, one just 21, the rest ky's.

What was most helpful was him showing me the use of the equipment, plus to see how he kept the bait on the target, then to see the fish hit the bait.
Also a large school of shad was seen several times in the area but these fish were all on the bottom

these ky's took a lot of work as perhaps as many as 7-8 baits came back just skinned to death , never touched the hook.

regardless I got a great lesson on the use of the electronic's I sure need to up grade.
The lake is seeing a some changes, weather, light etc. but its been moveing through since sunday so nothing real drastic.

When i ask him who had been the biggest help to him on the lake over the years, he pointed to the graph

I bet that was nice. I never learned alot about reading my electronics. I usually just used the basic info like depth and temps. Most water I fish is 7 foot or less and never felt the need to use all the info on it at those depths.
Remember that bassmaster show with Edwin Evers showing the dropshot and line on his graph? That was so cool that I did try that and was impressed watching that line on my own equipment....I'm easily amused I guess and might have learned somethng while playing.

IM included w/depth/temp, an some bottom texture for my readings, yesterday we could watch the bait/line weight yo yo off bottom an the fish move to it an one time the fish was coming straight up, as he hurried to catch up for a hook set

Het rick, yes that wind had a bite to it. I saw your car there when I came back in.I casted the wall across from the ramp, and went toward wolf river. Not a tap on the fnf, or suspend baits or siver buddy.Sure wish I would have dressed warmer. My warm gloves were sytting there on the seat of the truck when I got back.Talked to larry this morning, he's up beat. Heck rick, cut loose with some of that cash, up grade to a good machine you only live once.

    Re: watching with electronic's

I'm ready now! Since someone shrunk my snow mobile suit, and someone else shrunk my thermal under wear, I had every reason to be chilly. But went to the cowboy store in burkesville, and asked if they had a " bulemicly challenged department" Got a pair of insulated bibs, and am going to have the gloves sewn into my winter jacket, just like when I was a toddler. When I was a member of the "frozen snot" brigade, 35 degree temps were summer like.of course the ice fishing shanty helped. Was he using a paper graph or a lcd one? Had a good lowrance till a couple of years ago, and I had a short in the wiring harness that included my transponder, fried all of it.My boat insurance covered a lot of it, but finding a replacement transducer was im[possible. What I learned was its best to use manual modes to really watch fish.

    Re: watching with electronic's

Seeing fish in a moving boat is complicated, Setting it on auto when you're moving, and putting it back to manual when using a trolling motor helps.I had a manual with my eagle but it blew out of the boat.A lot had to do with gain and chart speed.the old paper graphs were great and very sensitive.Cone angle is another factor. In mho the flasher was the most accurate when you learned to use it. If I ever win the lottery, after discovering the fountain of youth, I would like to try one of those cameras. what boggles my mind is I used to catch fish before they had fish finders!

Some guides turn their graphs off when they find the fish as they believe the sonar actually spooks fish.
