    Thumbs down Brian Kelly

Wow, I don't know all the particulars about the situation but if what ESPN is reporting is true this guy is a piece of work.

According to ESPN he WILL NOT be coaching the bowl game after deciding to take the Notre Dame job. Now maybe the AD got mad and told him to hit the bricks I don't know but if he made the decision to not coach his team in the biggest bowl game in Cincy football history he's a scumbag. The way they are reporting this it's the way it sounds to.

Tim T what are you hearing?

Mark, everything that I have heard/read seems to be the players wanted him gone. He appearantly told them that if he decided to tke the ND job, they would be the first to know and it turns out they were the last to know. He brought the team into a meeting to tell them and most of them walked out. Mardy Gilyard, their star wide receiver was in the meeting for less than a minute. Here is my favorite quote about the entire situation. It is from tight end Ben Guidugli, who's family is legendary in football in Northern Kentucky.

We don't really care what he has to say anymore," tight end Ben Guidugli said after a post-banquet team meeting. "He can go talk to his Notre Dame team. We're ready to move forward with whoever wants to move forward with us. He's not on the boat anymore, so we've got to continue on."

Gotta strike while that iron's hot. You still think ND would be interested in him after a blowout loss to Florida? Not saying that's going to happen, but could. Perhaps the job would have been filled by the time the Sugar Bowl rolls around. There's no good way this was going to go down.

Think Greg Schiano wishes he would have taken a higher profile job when the opportunity was there several years ago?

Not the case at all. The deal was already made basically and he had been offered and accepted the job. Notre Dame isn't going to back out of a deal because of a bowl loss. His record at Cincy is like 37 and 4 or something, that's pretty dang strong.

What I'm saying is that the ND coaching job would have been filled by the beginning of 2010. What other options existed besides these:

    1. Sign with Notre Dame and begin immediately
    2. Continue with the Bearcats thru the Sugar Bowl and hope that the job was still open afterwards.

You're not going to sign a contract and then manage to keep it a secret for weeks. Unless your players were present at the contract signing there's no way they are going to be the first ones to know with todays news cycles.

Players and fans are going to be pizzed - there's no good way to go about doing this.

I think the main factor he is not coaching Cin. and is off to ND before the bowl game is for one reason. RECRUITING!!! The man needs to head out and start recruiting and you can not do that for the next 30 days if you are coming up with a game plan and practices for a team you are not a part of anymore. Seriously who can b;ame this guy for taking the job, he knows even if he gets fired after couple seasons ND has the money to buy him out or pay his contract in full like they did WEIS. I don't know the contract details but I will guess he's going from one mill a yer to about 3 mill a year. Seriously what would you do. And to answer your question I don't feel you can ever have enough money in this world we live in!

    Re: Brian Kelly

I think alot of guys missed the point. There was a better way to do this than the one he chose. They are slamming him on some of the blogs and Athletic publications right now. He better get out of Cinncinnati while he's still vertical.

Class fellas, Class it's a lost art in today's society I'm afraid. The job was there, they were NOT going to yank the rug out from under his feet for a Bowl loss. His players want his head on a stick right now, what does that say about how he did it.

    Re: Brian Kelly

This is all very disturbing. UC could be a powerhouse if they could just get some steady leadership. I think this is a result of what the previous president of the university said. She didn't want UC to be known as a sports school. She wanted it to be known academically. Thats why Huggs was let go from the basketball program. Not because he got drunk. The basketball team hasn't been the same either. I hope the football team can recover. I think the coach before Kelly took the Michigan State team. It seems that UC gets good coaches and then they go on to bigger schools. The brass up there at UC could change this trend if they really wanted to.

Oh and by the way, I think UC is going to put up a bunch of points against Florida. Problem is Forida will put up more. I look for a high scoring game. I think UC players are going to play hard to try to put the win in Kelly's eye, not to give him the victory.

I am a UC fan. However, Florida is going to put a whoopin on them in this game. I think Florida will win by at least 2 TDs. I really hope UC wins but I just can't see this happening with what has taken place this past week.
