    Kissimmee Help

Anybody on here familiar with lake kissimmee or the area around it? Ive got good help on here in the past regarding florida. I have never fished there but I believe Im going to try fishing the south end from my jon boat. It looks like it has some protected areas on the sattelite images. I want to go down the week after Christmas. If you can recommend an inexpensive place to stay I'd appreciate it. I'll probably be going alone and all I need is a roof with a plug-in for my batteries.

Th city of Kiss. has tons of options on lodging. Of course if your fishing the south side of Lake Kiss. then you are quite a ways from alot of those options. Have you considered fishing West Lake? That way your close to everything.

If you do go and fish out there by yourself be very careful because I have seen those lakes so bad that it was scary even in my 19ft Skeeter.

I have been down to Kiss one time and we stayed at a place called Camp Mack. They have hotel, supplies etc... Look up their website. Nice place.

We stayed at a place on the east side of the lake. I think it was called Middletons fish camp. They had some trailers for rent that were pretty cheap. It is right on the water and they had bait and a small store also. The website is www.mfctoo.com. They have a nice ramp also. Good luck on your trip.

Andy, I have not been to Kissimmee for several years but listed below are a couple of numbers to fish camps that I had:

Camp Mack (813)696-1108 (North west part of lake)
Shady oaks Fish Camp (813)692-1261 (South end of lake). If I remember correctly they use to rent trailers to stay in. Older place but they were very hospitable.
We use to go out of Joe Overstreet Landing on the north end of the lake and did pretty well fishing hydrilla beds. It is close to Kissimmee Florida where there is a lot of places to stay. They have a campground if that is an option. I don't have a phone number for them but the address is 4500 Overstreet Road, Kenansville Florida 32739.

Let us know how you do. I am thinking about a trip down there in January.

If I recall right, have stayed at camp mack or middletons and it is on a Canal that connects upper and lower lake. If so, you can fish the canal if it is rough on the main lake.

The other thing we have done is pull out and fish Lake walk in the water which is about 5-10 miles a way. Much smaller lake with more shelter.

Locating fish in Florida given changing wind conditions is always a mystery to me so I can't provide much input on that front for you.

Grape Hammock is about 1 mile North of Hwy 60 at the South end of the lake. The have cabins and trailers to rent. It's nothing special, but it will give you a roof over your head plus a place to hook up your batteries. www.grapehammock.com

My buddy just sent me a pic from Okechobee of a hog. He caught 48 today with a guide. I'm sure they were using shiners.

Grape Hammock is on the south end. Good folks their too, ask for Curt he's the owner. This time of the year it's little Kentucky down their, alot of the folks that stay their are from south east KY. Also if the wind gets up it close to the river. You can get away from a lot of the wind their. Some good fish get caught out of the river also. My Dad & Mom went to Grape Hammock every winter for over 20 years. Best fish was 13 1/2 pounds, both caught it. The fish eat 2 shinners. both set the hook at the same time, when the fish came up Dad saw what was going on and put his rod down and let Mom get it in and he netted it!! True story, they said the Lord worked it out that way so their would be no bragging to each other on who caught it. Have a good Time!!
