Man all I remember is that he said he would not leave KY. The buzz around here was the guy is the King why would he leave especially when he said he wasn't interested in going anywhere else. Sorry I can't find any quotes on this and I wish I could so I'm not talking out of my backside.
I do remember getting a few names tossed my way for saying he is leaving because of the money..LOL!
In the end that's why he left....50 Million dollars (insert doctor evil).
So many people that I work with were PISSED OFF and I just kinda smiled and reminded them it's all about the money. When it was rumored he would come to UL I about had a "code brown" in my britches. What an interstate rivalry!
I think people get blinded in thinking that a coach who has no history in an area has a loyalty as deep as a fan who could be 3-4 generations deep.
I hope someone can find the quotes...no problems on this end Mark.![]()

Hate the game not the player......
50% of the reason I like UL is because of Pitino being the coach, the other 50 is state school. When I found out Pitino was going to UL it scared the crap out of me. I wasn't mad. I thought they would beat us every game. It just hasn't worked out that way. Never mad at Pitino. I bet if you could get a true answer, I bet he wished he would have stayed at UK. Water under the bridge and we have Cal. Two of the top coaches period in KY. UK still rocks.
I watched an interview online and he said in a nutshell....he wasn't going to leave UK for coaching the Boston Celtics at 25 million but when they offerred 50 million and an executive position he couldn't pass it up.50% of the reason I like UL is because of Pitino being the coach, the other 50 is state school. He later realized that leaving was a mistake even with the money...I can't imagine turning down 25 mill and then someone doubling the offer. Man thats good business! Some people got it like that.
