A different outlook to structure location

OK folks, I have recently mixed both of my loves. By recently I mean within the past few years. I love to dive. I have dove in Belize, Grand Cayman, and Isle of Roatan. I also dive in Dale Hollow from time to time when I get bored with fishing in the dog days in July/August. This can improve your fishing three fold. I have swam upon fish holding on a submerged stump I NEVER KNEW WAS THERE. MODOCK BEND is FULL of suspended logs hanging on underwater ledges. The current appearently swings right through there taking wood along with it or fall from the upper edge of the hills.

My suggestion is to invest in yourself, not just fish finder electronics. Go get certified to dive. Mark waypoints. IT WILL PAY OFF TREMENDOUSLY!!!!!!

I tell ya what...you sweat up topside on a boat during 90 degree days squinting to see in an eight inch monitor to see whats 2 ft away....and I'll be below you enjoying the worlds best natural high viewing 360 degree visibility in a comfy 65-70 degree aquatic environment. LOL.....ya know whats funny though. YOU'D Probably still out fish me. I just like the feeling and seeing things differently vs. seeing a techno view of a beautiful lake. Its just too pretty to see on a small TV.

I respect your view on what you like to do, its something you enjoy and are willing to spend your liesutre time doing.BUT I( have a hard spot in my heart for scuba divers. Many years ago, while I was in the service, the state of indiana sand mined my favorite lake for a toll way[this improved fishing]the access road for the trucks was built, and a lot of sand was taken, this lake was in close proximity to lake michigan. The lake was left to fill up, the road remained, a fish highway to shallow water, and great fishing if you could find it, and knew where it was. Well, they left behind two junk vechicles, on a steep drop off, a perfect man made reef. For several years I fished that spot, caught a lot of fish, even won a fishing contest. Well I told a friend, and he promised to keep it hush hush, he didn't. Another of his friends worked for the city rescue squad, they had a ball dismantling the wrecksm good scuba training on vechicle recovery. The friend i told this to, was a city policemen, who had frioends on the fire department. It was still a fair spot, but the main attrtaction was gone.I found this by trial and error and a good sounder. I also learned a lesson, a secret spot is not a secret when you tell someone about it.

I will have to agree ! It is a different world down there. I was certified by PADI in 1984 and enjoyed diving for a few years. My Son has a Scuba Diving class next semester in college. I am sure that I will have to get back into it ! And enjoy it with him ! But I think it is going to cost me $$$$$$$$ For the latest equipment of course !!!

But I might need to quit Smoking before I do very much of it !

Now we know who to contact for Rod / Equipment recovery !!!

Ok, all you guys must think I am the cheapest son-of-a-gun who ever rowed a boat. But hey, us poor folks like to have fun too. So if you want to dive and you have a bugit check out the Hookah dive systems. Surface air compressor either on the boat or floating on a large tube. 100 feet of air hose connected to a low pressure scuba regulator. These outfits will get you down 75 to 100 feet, no having to refill tanks, dive as long as you like and a complete outfit for two divers around $2000. Yes you still need certification and know what you are doing. They have single diver systems for boat maintenence etc. for as little as $350. Check out Hookah diving. I'm saving my pennies as we speek.

I don't generate opinions of people online, unless I am singled out. If you are speaking from an expereince....I can definately respect that. I learn all my lessons from my experiences....and I can only speak for myself, but no opinions of ya KYGORSKI have been generated until I fish with ya and shake your hand. Get a first hand opinion of ya.

Now for 350 bucks thats a deal. Its like an admission ticket to another world. I'd save for a year knowing how it feels and how it will change your life. With a VERY strong attempt to not sound cheezy, I have had one of my most euphoric moments ever underwater. I have been diving and came across a 4 ft statue someone had sunk of the Lord Jesus Christ. I was swimming slowly forward along a reef when I looked up to see the statue resting upon the top of the reef in Belize. The sun was behind him and rays of light were shimmering behind him. I SWEAR IT LOOKED AS IF HE WAS GLOWING. I had to stop and marvel at this sight. I was hooked from then on.

My grand daughter had several lessons with tanks and masks, dont know how far it went, but I swear she is part fish, they have snorkeled in the caribean, and swam with dolphins, she was a competative swimmwer in atlanta and was darn good. They have an in ground pool and I watched her just sit on the bottom in 8ft of water and play.I think she took a few lessons at lake lanier also.

Re: A different outlook to structure location

One of the weirdest feelings I have ever had was to surface from 100' depth on ONE breath of air !! Exhaling the whole time! Something that you just have to experience to understand. Like I said a 'Different World"

Also had one of the scariest experiences ever while diving with my cousin. We were trying to recover a boat load of goodies that got dumped in a river. Which included rods, tackle boxes and a pistol! In very murky water. maybe 1-2' Visibility. After several attempts my cousin surfaces and says Help me to shore. I have run a stick in my leg. Well it was not a stick. It was his Dive Knife with a 6" blade buried to the handle from the bottom of his leg toward his thigh.
He had bought the knife and then matched it up with an odd sheath that did not fit. The tip of the blade came out of the sheath which was tied to his calf. The river current took the blade down stream and had the butt end of the knife solid on his calf. When he sat down in the water. His own weight drove the knife deep in his leg !! That ruined his new wet suit ! And our day of diving !!! Come to think of it, That was the last time I went diving ! That was way before cell phones, and it took a 4 wheel drive to get down to the river! The ambulance had a heck of a time getting to him after I finally got out to a farm house and called them. IF that knife had hit an artery he would have surely died that day!

    Be careful down there !!!
