The way you guys keeping going at it, Peter may need to consider establishing a new discussion board just for trout.LOL
Relatively new to the LC/CR area, but looking forward to spending some of my "golden years" on the river teasing those trout.![]()

Trout section sounds good to me ! With Fly Tying , Etc ! But do not worry about Peter seeing this. He is still asleep !!!![]()
Maybe you are not paying him enough! When is the last time you gave him a raise?
I've fished several of the western michigan rivers for steelheadm spring and winter, and I'm going to raise some hackles, but my spinning tackle out performed my fly rod quite a bit.I had a 9ft rod and used a wf line with a 9ft tapered leader. Did that on the cumberland when I first moved down here in 93, but gave it up. There should be an artificial zone on the river in some places.I take the barbs off my favorite baits, loose a few, but since I dont eat trout, dont care.
oh by the way. if this bottom clinging slimy weed isn't dealt with, the river will just be a put and take system like the small creeks.
Lost my last message big fingers poor eye sight. But I'm wondering what you guys mean by 6 wght and so forth. I'm not going to run out and buy another fly fishing rig, been there done that. But in my youth, we used letters for instance a BE would be a torpedo taper for large flys and bugs, An E BE would be used for subtle fly presentation, I never used a sinking tip, and floating lines that were good were rare. Split bamboo was the most used material and a lot of rods had two tips and four sections, No we didn't need to worry about dinosauers or wild indians!Tied a lot of step down leaders myself. My last rod was a 9ft loomis that cost me an arm and a leg, bought it from a friend who made custom rods. When I decided to give up fly fishing he completly stripped the blank and turned it into a spinning rod that was a dream. While wading near the dam, slipped on a balanced rock, and broke it, That reaaly hurt. thanks for the patience. I dont have anything against the "purists" who live by the fly rod, but I also fished the west and the white river using spinning gear, and enjoyed it.
I agree with ya, spinning fishing can definitely outfish the FR....if the conditions are right. I love spin fishing too, and will not hesitate to bring both on my trips. If I find the water is not suitable for my FR, out comes the spinning gear! Love throwing spinners and spoons for trout, reminds me of when I was young.I've fished several of the western michigan rivers for steelheadm spring and winter, and I'm going to raise some hackles, but my spinning tackle out performed my fly rod quite a bit.I had a 9ft rod and used a wf line with a 9ft tapered leader. Wish more people would de-barb their lures when fishing for trout. People just don't realize how easily trout die. Barbless hooks are all I carry when fishing for trout. Sure, you may loose a couple (but you may have lost them anyways), but being able to release a trout with minimal damage is definitely worth it!
I don't eat trout either......too boney! That is why God made eyes and crappies!
