I never noticed any weakness in the line, but they are a pain. I use a least 4 to 6ix ft of flouro for a leader. Less if using a spook or sammy because the flouo affects the action of those baits because it sinks.
Those knots are a pain with the braid, almost impossible to untangle. I also tried to flip my bail manually every cast, and that did help some. I think my OCD wouldn't let me cut the knots out and re-connect the two ends......that little knot in my line would drive me crazy! lol. As for a fluro leader with a topwater, I think it would be counterproductive as it would pull down on the topwater lure? I would imagine that straight braid on topwater would be better with it's great floating characteristics? And visibility not too much of an issue with topwater. IMO
