Fluoro. Helps that little fly sink better than mono. Only use braid for the main line (6lb). Some guys swear by mono, but I would say most use fluoro for their LEADERS.![]()

I know this has probably been asked, but what kind of line are you all using for your leaders? Braid, fluro, co-poly or mono. I have seen some post where people are using braid and some using mono.. I wouldn't think you would wanna use braid on the leader cause it will float.. I'm still trying to figure this rig out, throwed it quite a bit last week but didn't have any success, but the wind wasn't blowing that much either. Thanks

I use 6lb braid for main line and 6lb flouro leader and have gone to 4lb at times.
Thanks!!
I use 6lb Stren Magnathin, I was fishing FNF when Charle Nuckols was still alive, and he is THE FATHER of the FNF witch I have not seen his name on this board Ive been on about 2 or 3 years, I still follow his meted, spool out the depth you want and wrap the line 3 times around the lower hook on the float, Ive caught 6lb small mouth and on the next cast catch a 20lb stripper, I have broke fish off but never at the float, one advantage in fishing that way is if you get hung up you stand a chance of getting your fly back, remove the float and sometimes you can reel down the fly and get it back. either way will work. I would use fluoro or mono if you use a leader. JMO

!0/2 braid, 10lb flouro leaderIt will handle all you face.Just watch for those tangles before you close your bail.
8lb Fireline and 6lb PLine Fluorocarbon leaders for me.
Oh yeah...forgot to mention PALOMAR knots!
I think running the fluoro all the way from reel to fly isn't necessarily a bad way to fish. I've done it myself and fished with others who do it and I don't think there is an issue with break offs from the bobber.I use 6lb Stren Magnathin, I was fishing FNF when Charle Nuckols was still alive, and he is THE FATHER of the FNF witch I have not seen his name on this board Ive been on about 2 or 3 years, I still follow his meted, spool out the depth you want and wrap the line 3 times around the lower hook on the float, Ive caught 6lb small mouth and on the next cast catch a 20lb stripper, I have broke fish off but never at the float, one advantage in fishing that way is if you get hung up you stand a chance of getting your fly back, remove the float and sometimes you can reel down the fly and get it back. either way will work. The only think I really like better about fishing the braid and leader is that the braid floats and the bobber works better than it does with just straight fluro.
I don,t know why you used my post to refer to running a fluoro leader from my reel, maybe you misunderstood what I said, I use 6lb Magnathin through out, no leader at all, this has worked for me and the guys I fish with for 10 or 12 years JMOI think running the fluoro all the way from reel to fly isn't necessarily a bad way to fish. Right. I was agreeing with you that, even though I use braid and a leader, I've done it your way and seen others do it your way and I think that method is probably just as good with the only exception that the braid floats.
Your way has several advantages including being able to change depth easily and the ability to get your fly free from snags easier.
My bad, I was the one that misunderstood, that what getting old will do for a guy, lol lol and you are 100% wright braid flots a great advantage over mono, we use REEL MAGIC to help us out sumRight.
