buying a ss prop q?

A fellow reminded me when looking to buy props. A SS prop is good if you boat in clean deep lakes, but if you are boating in more shallow lakes with floaters and stick ups you are REALLY risking ruining your lower unit. He said...think about it. SS props are VERY strong, He said, "if you do happen to hit a log....what gives if you have an aluminum prop?...the prop What gives if you hit a log with a SS prop?...Your lower unit." Which would you rather replace? He is a boat repairman so I listen when he speaks. Now, with that being said.....I have a SS prop on my boat, but I boat ALOT in Dale Hollow. Not many if any floaters, and its, on the average, a very deep lake. Food for thought

I'm not a mechanic but I thought all new props had a rubber hub that will slip. When my 15hp hit a rock it spun the hub. Been around alot of large outboards and if you don't run a stainless your gonna lose bite fairly quickly. I wouldn't shy away from a stainless prop for any reason except for cost. JMHO....

I agree with KyDonKy...Michigan wheel was were I purchased my last prop. Good service and prompt delivery. Good luck!
