Way back when the 49'ers, (bradshaw era) Steelers and so on where top dog teams...was this the tactic? I'm asking cause I don't have a good remembry...
No, very very little of this existed back in the day, it was a matter of pride. Guys went out to win every game no matter what, if somebody got hurt so be it. Now if they were blasting somebody they would sit the stars down as to not get them hurt that's only smart. But I don't ever remember seeing this stuff they are doing now, I kinda don't like it even though it does have some merit I suppose if you look at it closely. They trying to get the big prize, without your key players it diminishes your chance greatly.

I didn't remember them doing that either. When I think back the image of Jack Lambert playing with no front teeth and blood on his arms comes to mind.

Get-R-Done, I loved that guy he was an animal. You can't even hit another guy in Pro football anymore. The players of old would open an entire can of Whoop Arse on these sheltered players of today. I can look back and still see Quarterbacks running for their very lives....litterally, lol.

Remember Ronnie Lott, defensive back/ Rover. He brought the lumber and would leave players on the field thinking they were hit by a truck, Ah Ah, real football.

Who was the dude that played with the broken appendage was that Jack Youngblood or was it Lambert? Thought he played for the LA rams but I was a wee lad at the time.

Here's my dream scenario. Jets beat Bengals. Patriots beat Ravens. Jets then go to Indy and beat them again. That would be sweet justice to beat two teams that could have eliminated them yet chose to rest the starters. I hate the Jets. I wouldn't care what happened the rest of the way. The Cowboys could win for all I care!!!

Man it could be either one they were both awesome. Heck LT was a bad man when he played as well.
I guess thinking about it there are a few defensive players that still play HARD every play....Ray Lewis is one of them.
