It's official. If a tie is really like kissing your sister, that must have been one heck of a smooch because that is a big bass!
I don't know how you guys feel about it but I think the 2 once rule is b.s. In my opinion it doesn't matter if you beat the record by a pound or a quarter once, you still have a bigger fish than the guy before you. Expecially when your talking about a largemouth of this size. The record has stood for 77 years. Obviously this is about the max weight of a bass. There have been several that would have beat the record by more than a couple onces, but there is always something that keeps it from being legal. Just something thats been on my mind since this story broke.
mawi97, I couldn't agree more
This is scary!!!This is from this month's Bassmaster Magazine:
"It's okay. I can catch a bigger one next year." -- Manabu Kurita's response to the question: "What if the IFGA does not certify your 22-5 largemouth as the new world record.
Kurita also explains that he lost a fish bigger than the record(s) earlier this year on a 12" 13oz Mother Swimbait. He believes it was in the 28 pound range!
That, my friends, is scary.

I always felt the Perry record was more a standard assigned by history than assigned by fact. The huge bass being caught in California are legit records in my book since they are weighed, photographed and witnessed with documented proof of the catch.
This latest world record catch has gone through the ringer to get approved/disproved and if it passes that test then its well deserved.
I have thought the same for a long time. If Perry's fish was handled now days like it was back then, it would have not stood the scrutiny. Btw, Doug Hannon agrees with us as well Don, so we must be right lol!I always felt the Perry record was more a standard assigned by history than assigned by fact.
