In the state fishing guide they have consumption warnings that will tell how much of each species it is safe to eat on waters like the Ohio. Personally if I need to be told how much fish I can eat I wont eat any. But I am not big fan of eating fish anywayif they tasted like steak or shrimp I would probably eat some. Actually I probably end up with Mercury poisoning if they tasted like steak.
It just depends on what species.
The smaller the fish, the less time it's spent in the water, and the less amount of mercury that has built up in it's tissues.
Just fillet them, remove any and all fat and enjoy.
I mainly clean and eat sauger, and limit my meals to once a month.
try this, http://fw.ky.gov/pdf/2010fishingforecast.pdf hope it helps

thanks gary, I had heard the ohio river had an advisory, on eating the fish. and was glad to read the report myself. but the advisory, on eating fish from lake cumberland. was something i did not know.

about all i fish for is striper and smallmouth, i never keep a smallmouth. i keep enough striper, from spring night fishing. to eat on all year. we grill a lot, but sometimes we skip the grill, and have a fish fry. before they lowered the water, on lake cumberland. when i would go smallmouth fishing at night. i would bait about 10 or 12 limb lines, and smallmouth fish for 2 hours. then go shine a spot light on my limb lines.i pick up a few good catfish to take home this way.![]()
I think you can eat something like on meal every six months if you are not pregnant.
I've eaten sauger caught this time of year several times and it is great! Personally, that is the only fish out the Ohio I would eat.
