Hey guys, I just acquired a 1972 fiberglass bass boat. I bought it for basically nothing from a friend who is going thru a nasty divorce. It came with a good running 45hp Chrysler OB, hummingbird finder, 36# trolling motor, and most of his gear. The trailer is newer and in great shape. I fished this boat with him in September so I know it is water worthy.
So like all these old fiberglass boats I felt a soft spot in the floor toward the front of the boat. I pulled back the carpet, and there is a spot about the width of the boat 2' in length that had been repaired before. It doesn’t appear that the repaired section bonded correctly.
My question to all of you is what are you recommendations? I have read all the other posts and understand more than likely there is stringer damage of some kind. I have talked to some people that have said to just clean, sand, and glass in a new floor over the existing. What are my options?
Obviously the boat being this old isn’t worth too much. But it is really a decent boat. I do not have any experience in this kind if repair. I also do not want to spend much money on this project since I have my other boat, and only plan to use this a few times a year.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
