What Reid said was the proverbial foot in the mouth. Seriously most people with any common sense would know better than to say what he said in the manner he did it.
You would think these politicains would learn a lesson or two from past events but I'm starting to think they may all have some serious mental deficencies.
Geo I don't think saying "Lott was FORCED to resign over much, MUCH less." holds much water.
Lott's quote: "I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."
Thurmond's party ran under a platform that declared in part, "We stand for the segregation of the races and the racial integrity of each race."
And a quote Thrumond made on the campaign trail "All the laws of Washington and all the bayonets of the Army cannot force the Negro into our homes, our schools, our churches."
Also Lott had attracted controversy before in issues relating to civil rights. As a Congressman, he voted against renewal of the Voting Rights Act, voted against the continuation of the Civil Rights Act and opposed making Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a federal holiday.
Much less?????
