I do it all the time with fireline.............
WORKS GREAT.
I tried it with flouro once, but it is too springy and TIGHT lower on teh spool.
Maybe if you use a lot of conditioner....but the fireline works fine.

I heard this works well with braid (fireline) but I doubt it will work very well with fluro or mono. If you use fluro just spool up a 1/4 of your spool with cheap mono and fill the rest of with fluro of your choice. You don't have to respool as often as you think with fluro. Just strip off 10 ft or so when you go back out on your next trip. You hear the pros respool everyday when they fish tournaments. I guess I would to if my line was given to me for free.
I pull off half and then respool. I respool before every tournament. I just couldn't handle it if I had a line failure when a biggin was headed for the net. The only time I had a break in my line is when I use light line with spinning tackle and it was probably my fault and not the line. Carolina rigs will break every now and then, but at the bait end. MAKE SURE you cut off 10 feet of your flouro when fishing in the heat it seems to get hurt by the sun. I use it on all my spinning rigs. This seemed to help a great deal.
Agreed when I used power pro braid it made no sense to throw away the line when half of it was perfect and still had color in it. I only spooled half or less with braid anyway used the mono for backing.
I have started to do this to save on fluoro. Mono is cheap, so I just throw it away. Mono also "ages" faster because it begins to break down once it is exposed to the sun.
Like Geo said earlier, you have to use alot of line conditioner (I use the KVD Line & Lure conditioner) and it removes the memory. I also use mono backing (the cheapest stuff I have available). I questioned myself about doing this, but I can honestly say that I haven't had any problems with line management once it has been conditioned. If you don't condition it, I could see where you would have problems.
I too have used Fireline braid over and over again. I lost my spare spools when my wife and I moved into our new home and I actually took the braid off and put it back on its packaging spool to use later. Just be sure to check for fraying if you do so. Hope this helps.![]()
Another good way to remove mono memory... Tie line to fence or truck bumper. Back up and let out lots of line, maybe 100 feet. Rear back on the rod and stretch the line (I am a believer in line conditioner as well. Use it at this point before reeling the line back up). Keep the pressure on and walk forward as you reel the line back up. I'll stop every five steps or so and spray the line conditioner on the spool. Repeat all the way back to your tie off point... You'll really like how well your line comes off the spool after you do this. Make sure you try this the night before you go.
