Haven't heard or been since before the holidays. I am curious myself, I don't like all the salt that is washing into the river from the roadways and would guess that the fishing is really slow because of it.

I've never heard of salt melt runoff affecting a fishery. That is interesting if it did. Better talk with Jerry Abramson if its true. I think Clean Water Act is more important than getting roads safe enough to speed (seriously).

anyway, don't be tightlipped about the sauger below, let us know. its going to be crowded anyway with folks that can't even spell internet.

I watched a segment on Kentucky Afield one time where they were fishing below the falls for Sauger. I've never fished for Sauger from the bank below the falls but from what I could tell by watching this particular episode of Kentucky Afield, it looked like the bank was plumb full of sauger fishermen, it looked like they were dang near shoulder to shoulder. It kind of reminded me of watching the kids around the trout tank at the Louisville Boat Show. As swift ast he current is it seems to me like the chances for catching another man's line are good.

I had never fished there either until last feb. From the bank for sauger. My freind kept telling me he was catching 2-5 pd'ers so i left work one day early to meet him there. Fished for 15 minutes and caught a 18 inch sauger. Im ready to catch some more. I think i like fishing better from a boat at the falls though. Get pretty crowded from the bank at times. I like fishing the river and always have good luck but im still not eating any fish out of there. I know its ok to every so often but i have enough health isssues without adding mercury to my system !---good fishing all........as soon as the ice melts--lol

A five pound Sauger would be a beast. Most of what is caught down there is cigars to 18 to 19 inches. 20 inch plus fish are there but are fairly rare. You will also occasionally get a nice Walleye in the mix to.

You got that right Mark 5# is huge.eyes maybe but sauger doughtful.

It's not just Louisville, Cincinnati contributes a good bit too, as well as the surrounding areas that all drain to the Ohio.

Once it rains and the salt hits the river, it's going to be rough for a little while.

Fished below the upper dam last Fri. only managed one around 15in. on a jig head with three minnows on it. The grub bite wasn't happening...I had the river all to myself, didn't see another fisherman...And yes salt definetly affects the bite. the blue stuff in your minnow water is a form of salt, it slows there matabalism down and gives them lockjaw. That way they don't poo in there water and die. Chuck
