Respooling spinning reels and line twist.

Never fails. When I respool spinning reels I get line twist. I try to make sure the line is coming of the new line spool in the same direction I'm winding it onto the reel, but I still end up with line twist.

To try to fix it, I hang the rod in a holder in the garage, drag the line the hole way out, and reel it all back in which gets some twist out. Then during the first fishing trip with that rod, I put in a rod holder at the back of the boat and play all the line out, let it get dragged for about 5 minutes, then slowly reel it all back in. That does solve the problem. Twist gone.

So how do you respool spinning reels without getting line twist.

I'm scare to death that some time sooner or later when letting out 250 yards from a Penn 7500 SS at C-land that some bass boat's gonna cross my tee and take the whole 250 yards with him.

Advice appreciated, and its okay to start with "Bob you ought know better".

Lay your spool on the ground and make sure that the line is coming off counter-clockwise, thread your line through your guides and tie off either to your reel spool or to your line that you are keeping on the reel. When you get enough line on the reel snip it and take it outside and pull off 50 more yards of line than your longest cast, you may have to do it a few times until you can open your bail and the line doesn't jump off. But this usually works for me even with fluoro...

If you have not tried braid before, you might want to give it a shot. It will eliminate your problem, and last for a long time. Twenty pound power pro braid and a leader of mono and flouro and you will be much happier.

I do the same things most do with laying the spool down and seeing how the line comes off but it only works 75% of the time for me. I have started to soak a rag with line conditioner and holding it fairly tight and letting the line go through it while doing the other stuff and that helps. When none of it works I let it spool off behind the boat you like you.
Now I have fireline in a small pound test and I really like that....problem solved. I use a leader when I feel it's needed.

I've used spinning reels my whole life (no good with a baitcaster) and have always respooled my own line. I do the same as the other guys said...lay the spool on the ground, take a cloth rag and hold it in my right hand with the line in it with good tension against the pole and start reeling. You only have to watch out for putting too much line on, then your first cast will be a rats nest. Also, the first few casts you need to watch your line before you flip your bill and make sure that it isn't looping or tangled. Usually after the first dozen casts, I don't have to worry about it anymore. Don't know if that helps any, but it has worked for me for years. Take care.

Try this it really works. Lay spool on the ground and start bringing line off counter clockwise. After several revelations you will notice that it's starting to get the loops, the instant you see this turn the spool over and you will notice the loops disappear, but it will do it again so repeat, turning it back and forth the second you see loops start to happen. Try it I bet you say it works for you to. Also hold tension on the line as it comes onto the spool.

Also like Don said I use KVD line conditioner, it's good stuff.

I'll spool my reel reguraly...when i'm done spooling i tie a barrell swivel to the end of my line and put the other end of the barrell swivel in a vice......i then stretch out as much line as i think i'll be casting and reel it back to the swivel....the rotation of the barrell swivel will allow your twists to get out of your line

EXACTLY, I keep a swivel nailed and just tie my line on it stretch it out and give it a few good pulls - thus stretching the line - works everytime

You beat me to the punch ......That is the only way I can get line on a spinning reel without having a lot of line twist .....Works every time for me.
