Does it do this at low speeds on plane or just higher speeds? On the Triton I mentioned I can steer through chine-walking....which starts happening about 67-68 mph.
Porpoising, is what the Industry calls it when the bow of the boat go up and down and can't be stopped until the boat is trimmed down, that's the best way I can describe it, you can go on Bass Boat Central and type in porpoising and they can tell it better than I can

Ahh....thanks for the explanation Gary.....just never had that happen. Sounds like it mostly happens in smaller boats with smaller motors. From what I read putting more weight in the front COULD be a simple and cheap solution.

you can find out what it is, get your boat up on plain get it trimmed out and cruisin, then slow to about 3000 or 3500 rpms with out trimming it down and keeping the boat on plain, if its like most boats Ive been in it will porpoise

since you say "once on plane" i would assume you are idling with the motor down, you may have a cable binding,if you have the the nfb rack steering like i have on mine you may have a clutch problem in the helm, mine does,at idle it takes all i have to turn against the prop, not as much with it of course, when i get up and running it steers right, but feels weird,so as soon as it warms up i am going to replace it,make sure your tilt tubes, and nuts, are tight,as well as cables,i had to take my cable loose to figure out my problem.under the dash..
Richy,if you see this you may check your motor height on the transom,it sounds to be too high possibly if you can't trim up at all.your prop is biting, lifting and losing again.but it very well can be the hull itself, either way lowering the motor could help..
