Adjusting the type of jig you are using will probably help but it was tough for me to believe I wasn't setting the hook hard enough when I first started fishing the jig but I learned that was mostly what was causing my problem .... If you have been use to fishing a crank bait then getting a good hook set with a jig is totally different. ...with a crank bait or a spinner bait you just mostly tighten up on your line ...that won't work with a jig ...You have to "break his jaw" so to speak.

i started setting the hook from the side instead of a upward motion. this has helped me out and like another said when the fish jumps point the rod down, i have even noticed somtimes when the fish jumps i will have half my rod in the water. and when you set the hook do a bill dance hook set just dont fall out of the boat
