Fishing by yourself

Well as a New Years resolution, one of them, lol, I have promised the wife to do a better job of keeping in touch and giving her my fishing plan when I'm alone. I must admit I have not done as good as I should have with this in the past. I'm not getting in younger and have had a couple of health issues. This is especially important to do in cold weather and cold water temps.

Just throwing this out there guys so that if somebody else has been as lax as me about this, maybe it will make you step it up as well.

If you don't have anybody to call make a friend on this site and exchange numbers, if they don't hear from you in hours past your call time maybe they would alert the authorities, just a thought.

My wife gets very nervous when I fish the River right below the Dam at night by myself. Of course I always wear the life vest suspenders. But you never really know. One night when the water was low, My boat got lodged on a big log. I had to get out and balance on the very slick log and push and push my guts out to get the boat free. But when I did, I had a hard time getting back in the boat. Was a little scary at night!

Reminds me of a not to pleasant story (or two)...

Night fishing at the dam (always makes her nervous anyway) and couldn't lock back through b/c barge after barge after barge came through. I made the mistake of a few choice words for the lock master and next thing you know the sun is up before he let me go back through. No cell service below Markland which she didn't know. That trip **** near cost me my marriage.

Also, got stuck on a shoal in the C-land river once. Beached my boat and didn't notice the water drop. I think I made it back to fish camp about the same time PRO V LE was on the phone with the coast guard... I don't feel too bad because if I remember my stories right I think my mom had to call the guard on him at least once....lol.

Been on the Indian River at night in Florida and had engine problems and this was before cell phones...man I had a worried pissed off woman at home. Sure there was nothing I could do but you know how it can be....

I love the Indian and Banana river sytem. We've fished it all the way down and into the inlet. I've caught many redfish, trout and black drum out of there. Snook fishing at the inlet can be pretty darn good too. ROLLTIDE!!

Guy's he is a fishin fanatic and is probaly up there with the best on catching Giant Blue Cats. He can also land a trophy Striper at will most times. I have seen him release a 8+ LM from The big O.
We lost my mother and Lowerider's grandma this week, so this fishin season is dedicated to Grandma!

I'm another loneangler.Itell my companion where I will attempt to launch and fish, and about what time to expect me home. heres the problem folks. When you get cell phone reception, which is rare on dale, and somertimes on cumberland, WHO is going to look for you or render aide??? Most marinas are closed this time of year, almost all of them never answer calls at night. When we fished the great lakes, there was a kit we caried with a flare gun, and many boats had marine radios.Plus the coast guard was always on alert for distress calls. I guess that most countys near the lakes have rescue squads, but they are mostly used when help is no longer going to aide you.

this is a very good post, i fish by myself 95% of the time. it's not that bad, once you get the boat in the water. and get the truck parked. my lifelong fishing friend died 7 years ago. and i lost interest in fishing, sold my boat, but last june i boat another boat, and been fishing by myself. we always fished together at night. sometimes it's like he is their with me. when you fish by yourself at night, just do everything a little slower and you will be fine.

I agree great post.. I'm new to the site and new to boating without my father. For a while I had a 12ft flat bottom, it was good cause I could just put it in the back of my pickup. Way to tipy tho, just the other day I bought a 14ft alum v hull with a 40 hp merc, console driven with a wood platform on front and back. Its basically a miniature bass boat. I myself also mostly fish alone (no one ever wants to get up as early as I do) I'm also a night fishing fene.

I'm very nervous about getting the boat in and out by myself, especially if their is going to be people waiting on me. I want get out before the lakes get real busy and practice. Im good at driving trailers just never had to do the boat thing by myself.

I always let my wife know where I am launching and area I will be fishing every day I go out there....which is basically around 250 days a year.
