Question???G-Loomis

Loomis Mossyback and crankin rods are well worth the money. I haven't fished the Shimano line of rods but I have fished Loomis for about as long as Smalljaw in his above note. What kind of fishing to you do? If your crankin 90% of the time you don't need a super sensitive GLX, If your worm or Jig fishing you may want to make that investment.
If your looking for a good all around spinnerbait rod Loomis makes a good one but I'm sure you you can find other companies that make good rods too.
I would just stick with one with a high modulus graphite blank not lower than IM7 and would try to buy one as high as IM9. I actually own some IM7 Quest rods from ****'s Sporting goods and they have been excellent for about 50 bucks a piece. I would take these over lightning rods every time and twice on Sunday

If you are going to drop the money on a Loomis, I would get the GLX - they are worth every penny. However, if you didn't want to spend that much, I would go with the Cumara over a lower priced Loomis, just for the return. Those Cumara's are sweet, and better than most rods, I think even better than most G. Loomis (excluding the GLX). The return deal makes them even better.

Col Forbin and Justin nailed it. If you can't get a IMX or GLX, I would not get a loomis.

The cumara, crucial, Powell, dobyns, St Croix avids and many other make the sub $200 extremely competitive.

Once upon a time I owned nothing but basspro brand rods, then I started trying many brands. I likely own 50 rods but only 10 go out in the boat. 9 out of 10 rods that go to the boat are loomis; mostly GLX and many are the jig and worm series.

If I had to pick just one for you it would be the MBR 783 in GLX; though my Dad has this in IMX and it is terriffic.

Loomis are good rods but dont buy into the marketing hype and pay their ridiculous price, Have a custom builder build you a custom rod on Rogue brand blank. As good or better than a GLX at half the price!!

Certainly a custom rod is nice if what you want can't be bought in a store. I have a spiral wrapped right Loomis crankbait rod with a 10 inch split handle grip that I adore. It was build to get around issues I had with store bought crankbait rods. Rogue blanks are generally liked by most guys. I've not had anyone say they thought the actual Rogue blank was as nice as a GLX blank or the legend level blank that St Croix builds.

Also needs to be noted that nothing more then a blank warrenty comes with a custom rod.

If cost and warrenty were of no concerns, all my rods would be custom built on GLX blanks. And I would buy from a builder who was regionally recognized for doing great work, had many greatful customers and had a phote gallery of all the nice projects he had done over the years.

Are G-Loomis rods really worth the price. I have thought about getting one because everyone says they are unreal. I have always fished Lightning Rods and just have a hard time paying $150+ for a rod!

If you want a good custom rod and want the Loomis quality you can get that. As most know both Gary and Brad Loomis are no longer at G-Loomis but are now building rods again on their own. I am a big fan of G-Loomis rods as I have a lot of them and Brad Loomis is a friend of mine, so somewhat bios for this brand. Brad is making me several rods right now which is better than the traditional GLX, lighter and more sensitive.
They are doing blanks only and another professional builder is finishing the rods. If anyone else is interested I can give the info for any custom rod you would like.
I have both striper casting and spinning rods and a few bass rods.

A mossy back is basicaly in between the GL2 and IMX in my opinion, the Mossyback is acceptable but I don't like the GL2 it does no compair.
Never used any of the others you mention though so cant offer any comparison, I only own Loomis rods.

I think there is a big difference between the GLX and the mossyback. Im not saying the mossyback isn't a great rod - it is, but the GLX and even the IMX is a much better rod. Honestly if I were getting one of those you listed for a Jig rod, I would definitely go with the Cumara. It is probably the most sensitive jig rod of any of those. But if I was buying a jig rod for heavy jigs, I like the St. croix. I have a legend tournament that I use for 3/4 ounce jigs in the summer on ledges. The only reason I got that over the Cumara is because the cumara's action was too light.

I dont think either has an over the counter warranty. Some dealers will give you a replacement rod when you bring in a broken one and keep the rod that comes in. I took a Loomis rod to backwaters and they gave me a rod off the shelf and I paid shipping. Shipping has always been $25 for Loomis rods at Backwaters and I sent several back so trust me. But its up to the tacklestore if they want to do that. The only real over the counter warranty I know of is at Dicks sporting goods with certain items. I dont have a cumara but I have at least one of every other Shimano rod and they are great no question. I also have several Loomis rods GLX, IMX, Spinnerbait series, crankbait series. I love all of them and a couple I got cheap used at Backwaters. The warranties are both adequate go with what feels best take you reel in and put it on the rod before you buy and see how it feels. Thats whats most important.
