I have one & use it for depth mainly. It's alright. If you spend some time with it & really learn it you'll be fine. No it's not the best Humminbird makes , but it's a decent unit in it's own right.

All I want to use mine for is depth and temp...Wanted a decent yet inexpensive unit...Have u had any problems with yours? Appreciate your help!
mine wont keep up on plane
I'm gonna mount my transducer to my trolling motor so I won't have that problem(sorry you do)...I have a lowrance for the steering column for back of boat and wanted this for the front...Had some Bass Pro gift cards($180.00) from Christmas and was hoping to find a decent one for the $ I had...Hope this one will serve its purpose, but if I find people on here have had too many bad experiences with it I will take it back(havent installed yet)...If any of you have any other suggestions for the $ that I have let me know(must be from bass pro-gift cards)...Thanks
I have one and it is used on trolling motor...it is a basic simple unit that seems to work very well and I have not found one in the affordable price range like that one that is any better. Buy you a cover for it on cabelas marked down.
Had 1 problemwith keeping a lock on bottom. This unit came on a boat I bought from a buddy of mine. I talked with Humminbird Greg on Bass Boat Central & he told me what to do & it has worked perfectly ever since.I'm going to buy a 581i to go in console for the gps & I will be moving the 525 to the trolling motor too. You can do some tweaking to the adjustments on the 525 & it's sure enough a pretty good cheap unit.
I really appreciate everyones input on this model...I was skeptical because I read a few bad reviews on it, but now I actually have some first hand info and that makes me feel much better...As of now I think I'm gonna keep it and order a dash mount kit so that I can mount it flush in the front of boat. I found them on hummingbird's website and they run about $34...Turkey- what kind of cover were you suggesting? Thanks JD
cabelas has neoprene face covers on sale from 5-10 dollars buy one...the sun and morning dew are hard on a unit if you do not take care of them!
Appreciate it, I'll look into them...JD
