    Checking political info

Given that there is a lot of miss information and half truths out there concerning political issues, where do you go to double check the info? I've used http://www.factcheck.org for a while and find them to be non-partisian. I noticed HurricaneBob posted something that was on
http://www.politifact.com/ . Looking around their site, seems to have some interesting stuff. Any others? Always good to have a few sources around that are non-partisian and supply sources so you can check them out too.

Facts who needs em...especially in politics. Once the people who run this country start dealing with facts then I'll start.

examples....I started the innanet, global warming, "change", "I did not have sexual relations with that woman", Palin banned books, J. Wright was just my Pastor blah blah blah....

Fact: The most popular first name in the world is Muhammad!

    Just playin around.....

    Re: Checking political info

Read an article about fact checking web sources about a month ago. Truth or fiction, snopes and a few others were mentioned. It seems some of these sources are even slanted at times. While the article went on to say that most of these are fairly reliable and trustworthy occassionally they will have their own slant or hidden message to convey.

Just food for thought, it was a magazine article in a doctors office, I think it was People mag but not sure it was a long wait that day, lol.

Mark, I agree, everyone has their own personal biases whether they realize it or not. Thats one reason I like checking several sources. The more sources that you have that have the same info, the more likely you are looking at fact than fantacy. Oh, and People magazine dude, you must have been ill

Checking Political stuff is hard. REALLY HARD.

After I posted about the military cuts, some people here used some statistics to "skew" what I was saying.

WELL...here is yet another post stating the same thing.

    http://www.heritage.org/research/mis...e/BG1394es.cfm

Yea, some cuts were made by bush........these cuts were made because the COLD war was over...but those cuts were target and gradual.

Clinton went NUTS.........and CUT to the BONE.

The numbers and stats I posted were EXACT. FACTS are facts, but libs refuse to see it, and try to figure a way to wiggle out of them.

FACT IS........if Clinton would have went after Bin Ladin in Afghanistan, we'd NOT be fighting there ow.

FACT IS..........if Clinton would not have made the military cuts he did, we'd NOT be FIGHTING two fronts.

FACT IS..........if Clinton would not have dismantled our military intelligenence apparatus, we'd NOT be in the mess we're in now.

    http://blog.stephenleary.com/2008/09...g-clinton.html

Andrew........like ALL LIBS, you love to try to change history.

    I'm sorry.......FACTS are FACTS.

I read a ton of stuff.....I MEAN A TON.........both sides..........huffington post, NBR, Reuters, Fox, MSNBC, The Onion . LOTS......

I try to pick what I BELIEVE.......glad we can still have opinions in this country.

I should also say.....I used to LOVE Factcheck.org, but unfortunately, they are beginning to lean left....which is EXPECTED....the funding for factcheck.org comes from the annenberg foundation, which is in Obama's pocket........Hardly fair or balanced in their analysis. I still use them a little, but when you have to fact check your fact check site.........well.......

    Later,

    Geo

Yeah, its just libs that do that. You and the rest of the conservatives here would never try to do that NOT.

Lets look at a few other facts. Clinton went after Bin Ladin with a few cruise missles. Missed him, got a number of terrorists in the camp. Newt (who was informed of the strike prior to it happening), dismissed it as swatting flies the next day. Gee, had problems with it, why not bring it up BEFORE the raid. With no support from the republican congress, additional raids on terrorists targets were not attempted under Clinton. Seems Newt and the gang were too busy putting party before country and going after Clinton for "cigar-gate" and all. Couple of years back we finally learn that Newt was doing his own intern the whole time he was going after Clinton. Hypocrite. If BOTH parties had gotten together then on Bin Ladin and done the right thing for the country, we would not have been in this mess.

Few other things to consider. Think any of these things just might have lead to problems we have today in the region: support of the Sha of Iran, Iran-Contra, support for Iraq/Hussien almost up to the first Gulf War (remember that nice photo of Rumsfeld and Hussien?), support for the Mahjdem (spelling?) in Afganistan who later became Al Quida, support for Israel doing whatever they wanted, turning our backs on the Kurds when they started an uprise against Hussien after Gulf War I, etc. Our current mess is not the result of any one president or any one party. The current mess is the result of a number of policies over several decades. Trying to throw the blame on any one party/president IS changing history.

Our problems with our intelligenence apparatus was not that it was gutted, it was that none of the agencies were talking to each other. Each one had a part of the puzzle that if put together could very well have stopped 9-11.

Got any info to back up your claim that factcheck is leaning left? I've seen them hit Obama and other dems pretty regularily on there. Same for repubs when they catch them in misstruths. As far as checking them out, or any other site for that matter, how do you know they are on the up and up if you do not check their sources from time to time or check out their stories on other sites?

...glad we can still have opinions in this country....
Me too And thanks to all that go into harms way to keep it that way.
