    Re: Cost of Fishing?

There is never enough fishing tackle.About 62 years ago or more, my mom bought me and my brother two cane poles, we got on a bus and went to the local lake. BVefore she died, she told my wife that was the biggest mistake she ever made!Whewn you need a 10x12shed just for fishing stuff, do you think I've gone too far? I had 100s of dollars of great lakes tackle, sold at yard sales here. At least 6 bait casting rods and reels, same thing. Probably a dozen spinning outfits, all on yard sales. 5 boats, a canoe, waders, hip boots,I know I have stuff I havn.t used in years. Waiting for my order to come in from cabelas. My ranger went toward the kids education, both college grads. Never got bass fever, salmon and trout occupied almost 10 yrs. Two yrs ago had 3 out of state licenses. But you what? would do it all over again in a heart beat.

    Re: Cost of Fishing?

I've looked at buying a new aboat and almost bought one last summer. Now I'm glad I didn't, my twelve-year old garage-kept Tracker 175 is running better than ever and still looks great for its age. I see a lot of big super fast bass boats on the water every weekend and wonder how in the world that guy can afford it. My fishing buddy questions what kind of home he tows that boat home to? I've got a great job, but there's no way I can afford one of those bass boats. I'll always have a good reliable boat, boat first and foremost, I'll have a good home to park it at.

    I fished out of a 15ft , then a 17ft, and now a 19ft tracker.......I've kept my 17 for 10 years myself.....

As for how the average guy affords a 40K bassboat......simple.....THEY DON'T.

They buy them for 10 - 15 years or more, are upside down on them, and usually sell them for a loss.

I'd NEVER finance something that long....CRAZY........but I know lots that do.

    When I can afford a 40k bass boat, I might buy one......but as it is today.....I can't.

    Later,

70 g's for a boat! Crazy! If I bought it, It would become my primary residency as my wife would kick me out of the house! I'll stick to my $2500 boat, it gets me around the lake just as fast as I want to go and has everything I need. I plan on upgrading as my financial means upgrade. As for tackle, I admit, I am a tackle junky! If it's new, different, or just cool....I'll buy it. I always figure that I'd rather have it and not need it, then not have it and need it!

if your interested, you can use googlemap to locate where manchester, ky is. their is a good size creek that runs through manchester, it's called goose creek. highway 421 runs right through manchester, on the south end of town the road runs beside the river. you can see a concrete boat ramp. if fished from a boat, it needs to be a flat bottom. this creek holds some good size muskies. this old man is always in the paper, where he has caught a big muskie from goose creek. they say muskie, is the fish of a thousand cast. I don't think it will take that many cast, to hook one in goose creek.

I had been in Manchester quite a bit doing service at Memorial Hospital and never realized that. Does anyone fish from the bank for Muskie there?

    Re: Cost of Fishing?

I have three boats...two for fishing, one for family...the two fishing boats are not all that great and if this stupid economy would take a turn in the correct direction I wouldn't mind trading two for one...My own personal ideal fishing boat would be a Lund or a Carolina Skiff...but most likely a Lund...but dang fella's, aint no boats cheap no matter the who the manufacturer is...I'm tending to make me think I'll just keep what I got and be happy. As long as the tomato's and pepper's produce good and as long as I get to go fishing in the first place, then for me that's about as good as it gets.
