Where to Stay? Turtle Creek? Newton Lake?

I know Turtle Creek isnt anywhere as good as it used to be, but I still would like to go for a day and maybe stay the night depending on the fishing. Its been a few years since I have been there and cant remember where I stayed last time. Any info on places to stay is much appreciated. Would prefer to be as close to the lake as possible. Also considering Newton Lake in Illinois. Never been there so any help would be nice. Whats the hp limit on Newton? Can you idle like Turtle Creek? Thanks.

You might check this site out about turtle creek. I haven't been there so let us know how it goes. The site has some lake speed info and some phone numbers to call to get info.

Interesting note about the modification to allowing idle speed with bigger boats. If it becomes permanent, I may make a few more trips.

Well i've heard and read really good things about newton lately. I really dont know much about it, but it has a reputation for big bass right now. Turtle creek.. not so much. Although i do know someone who still goes there whenever he can. It still holds the big ones, but i think it takes somes time and effort to figure them out. Id go to newton..

If you want to go to Turtle Creek, there are some new hotels near Sullivan and Carlisle, they are on US 41 and easy to locate on the internet.

If you go to Newton, there is only one place to stay in the town. I think it is called Riverview. $59 a night. Not many rooms so make sure you got one before you go.

You could got another 15 miles to the I-70 Effingham exits and there are multiple places. I recommend the Hampton Inn. They are always clean and very nice.

I just stayed at a Motel in Newton last weekend...Hot water, cable, refridgerator and all for $28 bucks. Ive stayed in much worse and paid more. Just a few miles away from a gas station, Dairy Queen, and Subway.
