Would a 15' jonboat with a 18 hp. outboard be enough for the Cumberland River below the dam ?
My buddy has a 16ft with a 25hp and fishes it all the time.![]()
15 ft should be fine. As mentioned with all the rain and heavy water release it will feel a little small. It's not all that safe for any boat when they're releasing full tilt. Good luck.
most of the time that will be a good bet, but when they arereleasing water big time, i wouldn't. I have a 17ft grizzly with a 40, and wouldn't take the chance. Patience, it wont last forever, good conditions will come again, its better to wait for them, than take a risk for a fish.
It would be an up hill battle with the current flow at 20,000+. I would wait till the water is down a bit before launching...although there are those brave enough to fish the dam when it's flowing like this...but it ain't me!
There are old fishermen, and bold fishermen, but not many old bold fishermen
How about a big 17' deep v with a 125hp outboard,or would this boat be overkill? Not only below the dam but on down the river also.
Hey Farmer when the water is high the deep-v is a great boat down there but when the water low and the dam is below about 7,000 cfs its way too big it may look deep but that river is hard to read. Anyways the river right below the dam is not too deep, part of it is out of the water when low so be careful.

I run a 17' semi-v with a 50hp. But your boat should be fine during "fishable" water.
