Depends on the weight of your boat and # of axles to determine class size. Take the weight of your boat, trailer and gear and divide by the number of tires on your trailer. Then look at tires that will support that much weight. You may want to go up a class if you are close to the max rate, but I would not spend the extra $ for a D rated tire if I were well under a C rating. The same would be true for a B rating vs a C rating. As for a ST vs LT, the ST is designed for trailers and the LT for trucks. Unless The LT's are "significantly" cheaper I would stick with the ST. If you are purchasing new tires I would get the ones recommended for the trailer. I would not worry about a $20.00- $30.00 difference in price, however, if the price difference is $100.00s then you may want to look at something that will suffice.

wellI can tell you after 3 different times I`ve blown just the tread off the tires,,,DO NOT USE AUTO TIRES! The side walls and all are not made for trailers,,,use a trailer only tire

My boat trailer had auto tires on it switched over to a tire made specifically for trailers took a lot of the sway out and just seems to pull better.

I personnally have never had a problem with a ST tire. Not only do I pull a boat, I also pull a dual axle utility trailer with a ford industrial 4000 on it, 20 ft gooseneck cattle trailer and another 16 foot utility trailer. If you listen to the real experts I don't think there is a single trailer manufacturer or tire maker that recomends replacing a trailer ST tire with an LT tire.

Yes I have seen people replace trailer tires with car ad truck tires as they will fit the rims. Many do so because the are able to get cheap used tires for thier trailer and most do not have problems doing this. However, If I were purchasing new tires and had my choice and the costs were similar I would go with the tire the trailer manufacturer recomends or the tire recomended by the tire manufacturer.

The article above is ???. He indicates that most ST tires are made by smaller companies that have older tire molds to work with. This whole article smells. Goodyear, firestone, bridgestone all make ST tires and LT tires. None of them recomend replacing ST tires with LT tires.

The last set of trailer tires I purchased were from Tractor supply in Georgetown. Got two ST 205/75/14 c range mounted with rims included for $108 each. This was less than I could find the tires alone just about anywhere else. Northern tool also has a price about this good, but shipping costs drive the final price up. There are some internet sites with good trailer tire selections, but you will have to find someone locally to mount them for you and that will add a little to the final cost as well.

dont buy cheap or too small tires. i put the biggest tire my trailer can hold,since i blowed both of mine last year.

Used to tow a 27ft travel trailer, and they definatly stste use trailer tires. My boat tires fro this boat are 12 inch, so it wont cost me an arm and leg, got them at napa, if if it quits this rain sleet and snow mix, will have them mounted this afternoon, There is some savings buy going to a lower rating, but jacking up a trailer, on an express way will soon make that cost saving look like crap.I know, I-75 in atlanta trying to even get to the side of trhe road was an experience I will never forget.
