I heard that it was cancelled this year. Does anyone know why? I've heard lots of rumors, but I didn't know what to believe. I hate to miss seeing the big buck contest.

The strader show was one of the worst shows I've been to...
Big Buck at the boat show - I went Friday night..maybe I missed something but all I saw were four heads on the wall???? I was thinkin': "Dag gone man, this can't be all there is?" Maybe the actual contest was on Saturday or Sunday and what I was seeing were the early entries?
Strader Show - Not sure what anyone expects to see at a show, but I'll tell you all what...there ain't none of them what they used to be, and none of them will ever be what they used to be either in my opinion. Strader's started out pretty good about fifteen years ago (or so I thought), but I think the Strader show along with any other show you go to now days has fallen victim to the big stores (BPS, Cabela's, EBAY, Amazon, etc). Why go to a show, look around, hunt for, bargain with people, etc and MAYBE come out with what you wanted verses go to the big store, go to the exact isle you know your stuff is in, pick it up, pay for it and get on with your day?
I understand why we all would like to go to a good show...for the cameraderie amongst fellow sportsmen, maybe hear/tell some good stories and to be able to be in the ambiance of the stuff we all like. I don't know...the internet sure has made things convenient but on the flip side it's also taken a lot of fun out of it too.

Taken straight from Jim Strader's website:
Expo\Litigation
Information
I very much appreciate your loyal patronage and support of my Hunting and Fishing Expo over the years. I regret to inform you that I am unable to host my Hunting and Fishing Expo this year. Due to my lawsuit involving litigation with Commissioner Gassett and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, I am not free to discuss the reasons underlying my decision to cancel this years expo.
This was not a decision that I reached lightly. Each year I look forward to hosting the Expo and meeting with sportsmen from around the Commonwealth. This year, however, due to matters currently being litigated in federal court, it is not economically feasible for me to host the Expo. Please rest assured that I am doing everything in my power to ensure the future viability of the Expo. Once my law suit is successfully concluded, I look forward to again hosting the Expo. I appreciate your past support and look forward to your future patronage once this matter is resolved.
Although I cannot comment upon this matter during my weekly radio show, I am posting a copy of the Civil Complaint filed in this matter to combat misinformation currently being circulated on the Internet. As always, I will rely upon the good judgment and common sense of Kentucky Sportsmen and let each person judge the facts for themselves.
Sincerely,
Jim
I heard he could not remember where he last put his "Buck Skin Jacket" and had to cancel the show. I think he is blaming the commissioner from KDFWR of hiding it on him.
Jim Strader has a lawsuit going with KDFWS (over what I don't know) and because of this, he elected to cancel the show.
The way I interpret the info on his website, he is not having the expo for economic reasons that he can't discuss due to the legislation.
In other words, he's not canceling it because of the lawsuit, but rather he's filed the lawsuit because he is canceling it.
JDOGG; you got that right. I went one year; it was so lame. I may try to go to the Fly Fishing Show this weekend. I like the boat show but don't think I can do both.
The reason Strader's shows started to go down hill was alot of the vendors pulled out on him. The last several years down there people would come walk around and never buy anything. Vendors don't want to travel miles and miles to set up and get nothing in return. I myself have found sevral items over the years down there that were awesome buys that you can not find in a store, you jusy have to look around really good.
As I and know1 stated above his not having the show this year was for economic reasons more than anything else. Vendor support was again way down and some other things happened as well.
Strader Show, like a lot of them, are victims of the economy and greed. Strader Show was excellent the first years, full of neat stuff, and packed to the gills. Convention Center downtown, just like the Fairgrounds with the Boat Show, raised the rental rate by 31%. A lot of vendors cannot afford to pay those kind of rates, especially when people don't spend money, attendance goes down, etc, etc. A lot of vendors used to hit all the shows when times were good. I talked to a vendor at the Boat Show from Canada and he said he used to hit 12-15 shows every winter, now he only does 6.
Whether you like him or not, Strader has raised a lot of good solid questions about how our money is being spent by the F & W Dept and he is backed by a lot of retired Officers and Administrators. Go to straderexpo.com and read the complain that got filed. Interesting stuff.
I haven't checked it out yet...but I can almost guess what is up with all this. I've lost a lot of repect for the Ky. 's F&W Dept. I very much enjoyed going to the show...never missed one. Found great deals each and every year. Even booked some good "Show" deals on fishing trips in Canada.Strader Show, like a lot of them, are victims of the economy and greed. Jim has a civil complaint vs the KDFWR...you can bet it is for a darn good reason.
