    Re: State of The Union

Created 2 million new jobs? Seriously?...That really is hard to believe...I mean if a guy gets on national television on all three major networks and says something like that then he should have something to back up his statement shouldn't he? I have heard tell of some new jobs created in the energy sector...and some jobs may have been "saved" (not created) due to road construction, etc...but saying 2 million new jobs have been created is a bit over the top in my opinion. Oh...and I forgot to mention the "lame excuse" for newly created jobs in the government sector, I'm sure new jobs were created there just to handle all the paper work for the Cash for Clunkers program. Also, since we truly have a global economy now...I wonder if this 2 million newly created jobs is including the jobs created over seas as part of the Cash fir Clunkers program?

I agree with APB...all that standing ovation crap goes on no matter who the president is...if he so much as farts he gets a standing ovation!

I didn't watch the program...about 8:15 my eye's started getting heavy and I hit the bed about 8:45.

Here's some more of the "newly" created jobs I guess. (Be sure to make note of the FORIEGN Companies who are reaping the rewards) >>>>>

Obama delivers $8 billion in rail grants
    Jan 28, 11:25 AM EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration on Thursday placed a down payment on an ambitious plan to develop high-speed rail as a way to boost regional economies and provide transportation alternatives to cars and air in fast-growing areas.

President Barack Obama headed to Florida to announce awards of $8 billion in grants to 31 states and the District of Columbia.

The awards are also billed as "job-creating opportunities", a priority underscored by Obama in his State of the Union address on Wednesday. U.S. unemployment stands at 10 percent.

More than 30 manufacturers and suppliers have committed to expanding or establishing operations in the United States if their projects are selected to help build passenger lines, officials said.

"Many of the companies are based overseas" since the U.S. virtually abandoned rail development in the 20th century to focus on highway development.

Experts say developing high-speed rail in the U.S. will likely take years, with costs in the tens of billions of dollars.

The largest of the $8 billion in rail grants, which originated in last year's economic stimulus package, will go to major corridors, with more than one-quarter of the funds dedicated to California.

The state will get $2.25 billion for a 400-mile connector between Los Angeles and San Francisco, with trains designed to travel up to 220 miles per hour, U.S. transportation officials said.

Florida will receive $1.25 billion to develop an 84-mile link between Tampa, Orlando and Miami. Trains would reach 168 mph.

Illinois will receive $1.1 billion for the Chicago HubNetwork from Chicago to St. Louis.

The U.S. long-haul passenger rail system is generally limited to Amtrak, a federally subsidized railroad corporation created from the remnants of private passenger service nearly four decades ago.

Amtrak's Acela Express service in the Northeast, the closest thing to U.S. high-speed service, carried 3 million people in the fiscal year ended last September 30, pulling in $409 million in ticket sales.

Transportation officials say companies with potential commitments on the table include: General Electric Co's transportation unit; "Canada's" Bombardier Inc; "French" consortium Alstom; "Germany's" Siemens; Lockheed Martin Corp; "Korea's" Hyundai Rotem Co, Hyundai Motor Co's heavy industry unit, and "Japan's" Nippon Sharyo Ltd.

Freight rails, which own much of the infrastructure outside of the Northeast, could also factor into high-speed development.

LOL, I think that was Michelle, and Obama said she was working hard to help the nation's children overcome problems with obesity. There was a standing ovation with much applause. Michelle didn't stand to acknowledge it and Obama said, "She's just shy."

My honest opinion of his speech, REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT.

I do have one question: Is Nancy Pelosi spastic? I noticed she couldn't stop moving her lips for two seconds during the entire speech. It was as if she was trying to capture that, "I'm soooo beautiful look," and couldn't get it exactly right.

That is just all the nerve damage that she has acquired from her numerous plastic surgery operations.

It was awesome how Biden started getting tired of the whole "standing up after every word Obama said" thing. You would see Pelosi pop up, then she would turn her head over towards Biden....and then he would stand up. lol. After awhile, the camer a started to just pan off when the standing happened, not to return to Biden and Pelosi till everyone was sitting down. Funny.

Loved the moments when the Republicans just flat out laughed at Obama! That was great!

If I knew nothing about our current situation, and having just heard Obama's "I'm amazing" speech....I would have thought the U.S. was doing amazing! All those new jobs and the economy back on track, blah, blah....is he for real?

One thing I DID like was that he did make Pelosi grimace a time or two, especially when he mentioned exploring the possibility of offshore drilling! Any time that evil witch is uncomfortable Im happy.

President Obama is a joke. He has no leadership skills whatsoever. This speech was nothing more than him trying to blame the world for his failure. An attempt to disguise his incompetence to the world as he see's his political career light burning out.
Lets see he blamed Bush(shocker), blamed republicans, blamed democrats, blamed the supreme court, blamed the american people. Blamed everyone but himself and his policies. Made another reference to schoolyard bullying. He must have had his butt kicked everyday in school growing up.
His arrogance knows no bounds. IMO George Jefferson and Weezy have this pair outclassed and he's not fit to wipe George Jefferson's buttcrack.

    Re: State of The Union

I watched most of it, and I'll say again Mr. Obama is one of, if not the most gifted speech giver I've ever seen. He also comes off as genuinely likable. Like Andrew says State of the Union speeches are for the most part useless. The actions of the President and the liberal super majority in congress speak louder than words.

His words do show he still doesn't get it. He's going to spend some more billions of our money to "create jobs", when anyone who bothers to think about it should know that's NOT the federal government's role. Government spending justified with bank fees, more taxes on companies and the wealthy is not the way to juice the economy. Cutting taxes and shrinking government DOES help the economy. Why can't our current leaders who're supposed to be so smart grasp that elementary concept?

Joe Biden is not really a human, no human can smile that big. He is evil. He is an alien. Some day soon you'll be seeing Segourny Weaver on cspan fighting a hideous creature that just popped out of his head. You heard it here first.

Nancy Pelosi is hyped up on something. They should give Congress a pee test and handle it like most companies do. She'd be fired. They'd have to take her sample in a titanium cup, and handle it wearing hazmat suits.

I didn't watch it for that very reason of the same old junk and if I wanted to hear nonsense I would just call my exwife (no offense ladies).

IMO..this POTUS will be looked at as a lab experiment that was built on a Friday and left alone over the weekend to morph into something it was never intended to be....it just went bad and now you have to wait until it's lived out its time.
