I would agree to a certain degree that both parties are out of touch. However, I feel the democratic party has become blind followers of the far left wing. The democratic party has flat out ignored anything the repubs have brought up in regards to policies involving healthcare, terrorism, cap and trade etc. and frankly treated them the same way they did George Bush, with total contempt and disrespect, regardless of if he or they were right or wrong.
The dems thought that the public hated all repub's, and having a super majority, that they could do whatever they wanted and didn't have to listen to anyone, not even the american public. Arrogance and a case of getting the big head from power. Now after finding out that that didn't work they want to label the repub's as the party of no and say they haven't offered any idea's which isn't true. I have seen what bills they have tried to shove down our throats and frankly I would have said no too.
Don't get me wrong, I am an equal opportunity hater when it comes to politicians. I think all the career politicians aren't looking out for what's best for the country but rather what's best for them as individuals. Appeasing the leaders of their party to make sure they get the financial backing from their parties leadership during their next re-election campaign. The members don't want input from us the public cause frankly we don't pay them enough.. I think I will shut up now. Sorry about the rant....

So...I don't blame Pres. Obama making an issue on a decission they voted on. If anybody has a right to rebuke...the pres. has that right...heck, even we do.
Im sure they can handle the pressure...we all need that. Lets look at the vote next time they have a big decission to make...bet it will be 5-4 again (I'll make a post right here)...very sad.
Dan, the real problem (and the cause of those 5-4 votes you despise) is not so much conservatism vs. liberalism, but in the attitude of justices toward their Constitutional duty.

The "5" --Roberts, Kennedy, Scalia, Thomas and Alito--believe that their job is to interpret the Constitution. The "4"--Sotomayor, Stevens, Ginsburg and Breyer--believe that their mission is to use the courts to achieve a desired social outcome.

This philosophical divide was never more evident than in Citizens United vs. FEC. The Constitution is as clear as it can possibly be: "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech." I believe the 4 dissenters understand that as well, but for them the law is going to lose when a decision might have a social impact they don't care for.
