    Re: Rod Building

The hardest thing I found was finding long one piece long blanks. Ferrules take away some of the feel, maybe if you can find a local rod builder with access to a reputable company you could make a deal with him. Tying eyes with out a bobbin and turner is a fierst class pain.I always liked the one foot guides since they first came out, and the newer ones look even harder to wrap.

I have built several. The best place to get all the stuff you may need is P&J tackle. The number is 1-865-376-5950 ask for Paul. He is an excellent builder and can help you with anything you may need.

I am here in Louisville and could help you out if you need anything. I am building 3 rods as I type this. I am getting ready to put the finish on some wraps that I just finished.

    Re: Rod Building

Your first rod will be the most expensive as you'll need to pick up a rod wrapper (Cabelas has a cheap one that has worked well for me), thread, epoxy, and rod rotating drier (rotissory motor type deal, again Cabelas has a cheap one that works well).

I doubt I actually save money buy making my own rod, but I am able to set them up to my specs or build one a little different than what is commercially available.
