Now, your buddy and everyone else around there needs to put their dogs and cats up while they have the lines set. It is not partial to what it kills.

Wow that is pretty cruel man. I would not suggest anyone to do this. I cannot believe that it was even suggested. Also this would probably be considered a form of trapping and coyotes are not in season right now for trapping. For legal means of coyote removal I suggest long hours and a good call. We always use a remote electronic call to get them in close. But, I have had luck with simple calls like a mouse squeak or using a turkey mouth call to mimick a screaming rabbit. It's easy just put the call in your mouth and say "WE" over and over again. That's it. Be sure to dress like you were archery hunting for deer. Full camo and scent cover. There's a reason law enforcment uses dogs to sniff things out. Try to have multiple setups across one piece of property. ALWAYS hunt the wind. Do your calling in very small intervals. If they are there and are hungry they will come in to your calls. Also, do not get discouraged when you hunt 5 or more trips without calling any in. There is a reason why there are so many out there, they are very smart and it tough to beat there noses.

Trapping season is in until Feb. 28th. The method mentioned above by Kent, although not agreed upon by many, is a very efficient method of eliminating coyotes and has been used for years in areas with major problems. I have trapped them using dirt sets for many years but if you are not interested in investing in traps, screens, scents, etc, then electronic calls and rifles work best. Be sure and review the furbears section thoroughly on the KDFW website to make sure that you are in full conformance with regulations.

Use big sharp hooks and be prepared to have to deal with what you're gonna have suspended. You can also use single barb shark hooks and I would recommend some 200 lb test cord or wire. Some may think its cruel or sick, but I'll guarantee watching a yote or two taking down a vulnerable fawn would bother you more. good time of year to do it right now cause if they die on hook, they'll be stiffened up in a day or two in this cold and it won't bother you as much, if you're worried about that.

If he's seeing the yotes close to house, he can just shoot them with any kind of rifle if backdrop location is safe.
