Line for Crankbaitin'

What kind of line do you guys like to use for crankbaits?...I'm confused at whether mono is better to offer the stretch or if flouro is better becuase of the sink/depth....then again there's always braid with a leader....what are the thoughts?...also, i guess there is a difference in the deep diving cranks versus the medium diving.....ideas?

I would stay with mono unless you fish a very limber rod then you could try the braid. The braid will get you better depth with the med. and deep divers. The stretch that mono offers will help with hook ups.

Just my opinion, but I think it all depends on the application.

I like fluoro for medium and deep-diving cranks, and in clear water. Fluoro helps your crank get into the strike zone quicker because it is more dense and sinks faster than mono. You also get feedback in that the fluoro helps you feel the bottom composition (rocks, stumps, soft bottoms like mud and sand).

However, sometimes I will use mono -- but on shallow-diving cranks. Since mono floats, it will keep your bait up in the water column. I use it in stained and dirty water since it is more visible in clear water.

Some people use fluoro exclusively for its sinking, depth and invisibility. Some use mono exclusively for its stretch factor. It's all just a matter of preference and what depth the fish are relating too. I throw whatever is going to help me catch fish better depending on the depth they are at and the color/clarity of the water.

Med to deep cranking is the only place flouro has in my box. Its got enough stretch, gets the bait down, but most importantly helps tell me what (if anything) my bait is hitting. If I dont know what or if my crank is hitting Im going to have a hard time getting bites. I really have a hard time with mono for this application only. Still, good flourocarbon is too expensive. For all else its big game.

i like flouro my self. for one it is les visable and it sinks wich makes the bait dive deeper,plus you can get better fill of the structure you are fishing. and the way i balence out the low stretch of the flouro is a glass rod with a soft tip and a smooth loose drag.

Im staying with the Berkley Big Game mono...12 lb...for most of my CB's...If muddy water...and your up shallow..maybe even 15 lb big game. I like that with my spinner baits / buzzbait as well.
It has never once let me down. Best mono for the price..and for results. Now if Im throwing a jerk bait...in clear water...then floro.

2 years ago I would have fully agreed with the last 2 posts. I still use Big Game for lots of applications, just not for crankin', and love it! I've also used P-Line and like it a whole lot as well. HOWEVER, I started using Sufix Crankin' Line last year and that's all I'll use from now on. It comes in a clear/green plastic box (I bought mine at ****'s Sporting Goods but you can also buy it at Tacklewarehouse.com). This stuff is perfect for crankin'! Give it a try and I'm sure you'll agree. It's super tough and flies off the spool for long casts. GREAT PRODUCT!

Suffix crank bait line by far... I turned Smljaw on to it and he became a believer as soon as it he spooled it.. You can cast it a mile and it is tough as nails!!
