Just finished reading this article White Bass Fishing and though it worth sharing with the board . Going to give it a try on the Cumberland this spring.

Kygorski, is this similar the "micro light" method you described to me a few weeks ago? The one you used on Cumberland, before the water got all screwed up.

No, what I use is,or used is a 8 ft or so ultra light rod, I got it at fish USA, I use 8/2 stealth braid and an 8lb flouro leader. Depending on current and depth i'll use either a 1/16 or 1/8 oz punisher jig with the single wire weed guard. For white bass in the creeks, a white, yellow or charreuse squirming type grub, usually berkley power bait. In the river, when the water is clear[if it ever is again] a natural colored small paddle tailed grub, usually punkin seed or close. that small grub sort of looks like the color of those small cadis flys you see hatching at times.Casting it quartering the current, and letting it drift down, trout love them, and that light rig is a ball on whites and trout. Hooked a medium sized carp on it, and it took the better part of 20 mins to gt it to the net.

One question - are there that many white bass in Cumberland? I'm guessing you mean the river. I'd say Herrington and Taylorsville would be prime targets for this type of fishing.

Have no idea on the population, but I'm sure Chuck at Strange Bait in Burksville could help those interested.

Richy richy richy, There are white bass in the cumberland river, not tons of them, because they are not catch and release fish for a lot of the guys who catch them.A couple of yrs ago I saw tweo fishermen with a stringer of small whites that must have 50 fish between them, and NOT one over7 inches long. They actually were a nuisance around the dam.But they run in cycles. I caught some decent ones before the dam fiasco. Crocus and marrowbone creek have some decent fish in them at times, but again, some guys over harvest them. Marrowbone creek also has or had a nice spoyyed bass population[spotted or ky bass], but again catch and release isn't practised that much, as far as I've seen.As far as eating fish is concerned, white bass dont exactly rate very high as table fare, but they are great fighting fish for their size.

Looks like those ideas from the article would work well for the Ohio River too. Might be interesting if you hooked a good Hybrid though!

OK RICH, If you say so , then if I want fish for whites in the Cr, the just get a float boat and head South?

White bass are making a decent comeback in the lake to. I caught and another guy caught one a piece in a small jump in front of Halcombs late this past fall. First white bass I have caught out of that lake in a long time. Another year or two and there are gonna be some fishable numbers in the lake. They love beating on those 2 inch threadfin on the surface. Both fish caught out of this jump before they stopped were nice whites to.

there are also a few being caught on dale also, I netted one for a guy a couple of springs ago that would go over 2 pounds easily.

Does that mean we may expect to see HYBIRD bass in LC in the future? Don't know if the strippers in LC spawn or not, but if?

Stripper PLUS White Bass = Wiper/hybird?????
