Toyota recall

Just looking for thaughts on the recall. Think this will effect the sales of their vehicles over the short term? I would think that Toyota will pull out of this from a long term stand point.
Basicaly Im considering a new or newer vehicle, but not sure if I would go with the Toy unless they are going to make it worth my while. The truck I have now was "silently" recalled due to frame rot.

They will be fine in the long term. They are not the only one's who have had issues. They are getting a lot more exposure due to them being a major competitor to GM and other U.S. automakers who are not performing well. Not that it's unwarranted by any means, but all of the automakers try to ignore known issues with their vehicles until someone (trial courts, NHTSA) makes them deal with it. It's not hard to find info on any issue you are having on your vehicle. Do a quick search and you will find that there are thousands of people having the same problems and the automaker doesn't deal with it unless they have been ordered to do so. It's all about the money.The consumer pays the price either way.
Obama to blame? I doubt it, this time... but I am sure Obama would pass the buck to Bush anyway so it's a moot point.

Right now I'd say Ford is the one to buy from. Didn't take any bailout money and their quality ratings are on the rise.

They appear to have good leadership.

Not me. Been around way to many Ford vehicles. Wiring issues, suspension problems and bad fitting parts. I know there are alot of them out there and they look good but in our industry (construction) we have been through the Fords, GM's, Mopar and Yotas.

We have switched to Yota and Chevy because of maintenance records through the 30 years of being in business.

I've got a friend that had a 96' truck that was recalled for the frame rot. 300,000+ miles and they cut him a check for $8500. That truck wasn't worth much more than a grand. I don't know of another company that would do that.

I know we had a certain American made 2003 model vehicle that the transmission went out on. Known problem, thousands upon thousands of similar complaints some went out within the warranty period but most like ours went out just after. "Sorry, it'll be 3 grand to replace......"

1996 Frame Rot...which manufacturer? Was it a Chevy?

I have a 97 Chevy...the only signs of rust thus far are on the very bottom of the door skins. Couple of years ago I went to a junk yard and bought two rust free doors off a 98 model, they're sitting in the garage waiting until their day comes. I'm of the opinion that it's ALWAYS cheaper to keep her, so hopefully that's what I'll do.

DJD - Facts are facts...and I probably agree with you, those "foriegn" jobs probably do require less maintenance, I've never driven one but I have rode in several and they all seem well engineered, etc. But for me...man I don't know, I just can't cross that line. Like you say, to each his own.

I think Andrew (APB) had a problem on his Toyota and he got into a newer one. I don't remember the details.

Also right now there is no better warranty than what they are offering. Compare gas mileage to, Chevy and GMC and they beat most models out there in similar vehicles. Let's get AMERICA moving fellas.

I have no problems whatsoever with GM products. I drive a Saturn and one of my favs was the 85 GMC Jimmy I had that I finally had to part ways with. As for those commercials with Howie Long however, if you look at the fine print they beat some of the models they are comparing their product to by 1mpg and it's not even both city and highway. That's negligible in my opinion.

Yea I know, but I still like ole Howie. I know alot of the rice burners are built here in the US but I just can't make myself buy one. I have no issues with anybody that does, but for me I'm gonna stick with American products.
